Het verhaal van de oostkant

Ambitieuze architecten en jonge koks bezorgen Oslo een nieuw hoogtepunt. Kan je dat niet bekoren? Bestorm dan de Galdhøpiggen, met zijn 2469 meter boven zeeniveau de hoogste bergtop van Noorwegen.

Net als de rest van Noorwegen is ook Oost-Noorwegen een regio vol contrasten. Enerzijds is er Oslo, de snelst groeiende hoofdstad van Europa en bekend om de levendigheid, de vele nieuwe en prestigieuze gebouwen, het geweldige eten en de bruisende kunst- en muziekwereld.

Het noorden en westen van de regio worden echter gedomineerd door bergen en gletsjers Verder naar het oosten vind je een reeks pittoreske kleine stadjes die tegen de grens met Zweden nestelen.

Meer dan de helft van de Noorse bevolking woont in Oost-Noorwegen. Oslo is bovendien het knooppunt voor nationale en internationale reizigers. Vanuit Oslo waaiert een reeks aan wegen, spoorwegen en vliegroutes naar talloze binnenlandse bestemmingen. Het kan dan ook niet anders of Oost-Noorwegen is het natuurlijke startpunt voor je vakantie in het land.

    De kuststadjes in Oost-Noorwegen bieden idyllische vergezichten én een heerlijk stadsgevoel, terwijl de bergen en valleien in het binnenland ongekende mogelijkheden bieden om te skiën, te wandelen en te fietsen. Je hebt dus helemaal zelf in de hand wat je gaat doen.

    In Oost-Noorwegen vind je Oslo, de hoofdstad van Noorwegen. Oslo is ongetwijfeld de meest kosmopolitische stad in het land. Je vind er restaurants met Michelinsterren, opera's en ballet, het beroemde schilderij "De schreeuw" van Munch en het best bewaarde Vikingschip ter wereld - om maar wat te noemen.

    De stad verandert dankzij enorme stedelijke ontwikkelingsprojecten in een hoogwaardige en moderne metropool.

    Je hoeft niet ver buiten Oslo te reizen om heerlijk te skiën in de winter. Hou je meer van de zomer? Geniet dan van een van de vele festivals in de stad, van rock 'n' roll tot internationale films.

    Tijdens het eigen voedselfestival "Mathallen" kun je ingrediënten en gerechten uit heel Noorwegen (en daarbuiten) proeven. Mocht je het festival onverhoopt missen, dan kun je je altijd te goed doen in de uitstekende eetgelegenheden. Lees meer over Oslo.

    Wil je letterlijk een hoogtepunt? Bezoek dan de hoogste berg van Noorwegen, Galdhøpiggen, op 2469 meter boven zeeniveau. De berg bevindt zich in het westen van Oost-Noorwegen en is bijna voor iedereen toegankelijk. De gletsjers kun je maar beter onder begeleiding van een gids bezoeken: da's een stuk veiliger.
