Een groene uitstap naar Oslo

Oslo heeft een bruisend stadscentrum en weelderig groene natuurgebieden vlakbij. De stad kreeg de titel Europese Groene Hoofdstad in 2019 danzkij haar inzet voor natuurbehoud en het verminderen van vervuiling.

De stad houdt vast aan deze titel en definieerde nieuwe groene doelstellingen. Oslo probeert onder andere voedselverspilling in scholen tegen te gaan en tegen 2030 de uitstoot met 95 procent te verminderen. De toekomst ziet er groen uit en de Noorse hoofdstad zal de komende jaren een bron van inspiratie blijven.

Daarnaast blijft de focus ook liggen op een duurzaam stadsleven. Deze houding zie je ook aan de activiteiten die de inwoners en bezoekers aangeboden krijgen. Je kunt bijvoorbeeld je dag beginnen met een frisse ochtendduik in de binnenstad en nadien van een warme sauna genieten. Sommige gekke Noren doen dit voor ze gaan werken, zelfs in de winter! Daarna kun je meegaan met een begeleide tocht te voet of met de fiets of kun je enkele van de topbezienswaardigheden of gratis activiteiten van de stad bezoeken. Rond je dag ’s avonds af met enkele botanische cocktails bij de (letterlijk) groene bar.

De voorbije jaren evolueerde Oslo tot een stad die zijn inwoners op de eerste plaats zet. Veel wijken in het centrum zijn autovrij, en daardoor vind je in de straten en op de pleinen tal van mensen die buiten eten, van een 'utepils' genieten of gewoon te voet of met de fiets onderweg zijn. De waterkant waar je vroeger enkel spoorlijnen, snelwegen en scheepscontainers kon vinden, heeft nu voet- en fietspaden tussen de verschillende stadsstranden en hippe wijken.

De Noren zeggen vaak dat de natuur het beste medicijn is. Dankzij de strategische ligging tussen het blauwe Oslofjord en het grote bos van Oslomarka kun je in Oslo na een kort ritje op de metro vanuit het stadscentrum gemakkelijk gaan wandelen, fietsen, vissen, of skiën. De Akerselva-rivier loopt dwars door de stad en het landschap is het perfecte decor voor een wandeling.

Tijdens de lente en zomer zijn de kleurrijke bloemen in de kruidtuin van Oslo erg geliefd bij de locals, toeristen en kleine zoemende bestuivers. Zoals je ziet kunnen de bijen en hommels ook groene steden appreciëren. Ze hebben zefls hun eigen snelweg door de stad (in het Engels).

Neem een veerboot of kajak en ga eilandhoppen, of ga lekker ontspannen in één van de groene parken in de stad. Wil je eerder cultuur opsnuiven en je hebt al alle belangrijke musea bezocht, neem dan één van de duizenden stadsfietsen die je overal in de stad vindt, en bewonder de streetart en de kunstinstallaties in de buitenlucht. Krijg je honger, dan staan er heel wat goede cafés en restaurants klaar om je te verwelkomen – sommige hebben zelfs Michelinsterren. Ze bieden groene menu’s aan met lokaal gekweekte ingrediënten, biologische groenten en vegetarische maaltijden.

Niet klaar om na een weekendje Oslo al terug naar huis te keren? Dan zijn er tal van gecertificeerde duurzame bestemmingen die je kunt bezoeken.

3 groene doelen van Oslo

In zijn klimaat- en energiestrategie heeft Oslo 16 initiatieven opgelijst waarop het lokale bestuur de komende jaren de nadruk wil leggen om de stad nog duurzamer te maken. Hier vind je er drie:

1. Tegen 2030 het autoverkeer met een derde verminderen.

2. De haven groener maken en de uitstoot met minstens 50 procent verminderen tegen 2030.

3. Samenwerken met de transportindustrie en -autoriteiten om treinen en schepen de belangrijkste transportmiddelen te maken voor vrachtverkeer, en niet langer vrachtwagens.

Oslo city bike

Met een Oslo city bike kun je de stad gemakkelijk op twee wielen verkennen.

Gebruik je telefoon om de deelfietsen te ontgrendelen bij één van de meer dan 100 stations in en rond de binnenstad. Is een fietsrek vol of leeg, dan is het volgende vaak vlakbij.

Je kunt dezelfde fiets maximaal 45 minuten gebruiken. Nadien mag je een andere of dezelfde fiets ophalen bij een ander fietsstation.

De hoofdstad van de elektrische wagen

Ongeveer 30 procent van alle voertuigen die vandaag in Oslo verkocht worden, zijn elektrisch. De stad verdient dus zeker de titel van ’Wereldhoofdstad van de elektrische wagen’. Dit maakt deel uit van de ambitie om de stad tegen 2050 CO2-neutraal te maken.
