Ayumi Tanaka, Thomas Morgan and Thomas Strønen are all equally known for their gentle touch as for their strong musical instinct and originality. The trio had great artistic success with their first concert at Nasjonal jazzscene in Oslo just over two years ago, and earlier this year the three musicians were in the studio to record their debut record with Manfred Eicher as producer.
The result we will get to hear on the long-awaited ECM release expected ahead of this autumn's tour. Pianist Ayumi Tanaka moved from Japan to Oslo to study under Misha Alperin at Norges musikkhøgskole. Later she found success with her own trio and became part of the celebrated ECM stable. Tanaka and Thomas Strønen know each other well after many years together in his band Time Is a Blind Guide, and in trio format together with saxophonist Marthe Lea.
Bassist Thomas Morgan has been one of our great favourites for many years. Perhaps best known for his long-standing and close collaboration with Bill Frisell, but he has also had a long series of other interesting projects, among others with Jon Christensen and Jakob Bro. The core of their collaboration is a sonic wholeness shaped by attentive listening and a shared, instinctive musical language. Three cultures in a common approach, modern acoustic jazz at its very finest.
