North Wei // ASF // Kvarteret

North Wei is a music project born from a small individual with a big artistic vision. He integrates various life experiences into his music with passion, brutal honesty, as well as a sense of fun and happiness.

Over the past few years, he has been surrounded by creative minds who introduced him to their worlds through visuals and sound. This inspired North Wei to create a world and soundscape of his own. After dedicating two years to studying music production, he became deeply attached to the sounds of 80s synthesizers and drum machines, as well as sub-genres like synthpop and indie electronic within the alternative pop and new wave scenes.

Artists such as Magdalena Bay, Gorillaz, and The Weeknd have painted an inspiring picture for him with their modern takes on classic genres, making way for newer influences like Sam Gellaitry, Josha Daniel, and Chappell Roan.

North Wei is here to share his artistic vision, sound, and stories through music. Welcome to the journey ahead."

Behind the mysterious alias North Wei is the young and fearless Sander Skråmestø from Bergen, Norway. Despite being a relatively new project, North Wei has already made a mark on the scene with performances at events like Eggstockfestivalen 2023 and the opening of Kultur X,, as well as appearances at renowned Bergen venues such as Hulen and Apollon.

When he takes the stage, his magnetic energy and presence are impossible to ignore. North Wei has already left a trail of fans in both the Bergen music community and his hometown of Radøy, where requests for autographs and photos have become the norm. In November 2024, he was featured in Avisa Nordhordaland , discussing his goal of establishing himself in a demanding industry.

Sander describes himself as "a small human with a large artistic vision." During his two years of music studies, he became drawn to the sound of 80s synthesizers and drum machines elements that have become the dominant DNA of North Wei's music. He characterizes his sound as "synthpop with a modern twist."
