Ål
Sangenuten Ål in Hallingdal
Nice and varied hike in high mountain terrain, and the radio tower at the top of Sangenuten makes it easy to find your way.
From the parking lot at Turrhaug (1020 masl), south of the road leading to Nystølen, continue to walk towards Rødungen before you turn onto a private road on your right hand side. At the end of this road you will find the trail where you shall continue upwards until you have passed the tree line.
Up here you have a view over Ål and further down the valley.
You can also see mountain tops on the other side of the valley, and behind you a bit to the north is Sangenuten (1189 masl) itself.
Follow the cairned trail along the plateau slope to the foot of Sangenuten, in easy hilly terrain. When you arrive at the top you will have an even greater view with Hallingskarvet and Hardangerjøkulen to the west. At the top of the mountain you will find a hut with technical equipment and a mast, and a guest book where you can write a greeting.
On your way back to the car you have several different options. If you fancy a climb take the trail over the neighbouring tops.
It is somewhat hilly but well marked trail.
Second alternative is to walk along the foot of the mountain about 100 metres lower than the first alternative.
You will find an idyllic cairned trail which is easy to follow. You will pass nice resting areas, some "forgotten" snow and a few idyllic bathing ponds. On your way down you will meet the Pilgrimtrail. Here you can either take to the left/east and back to Rødungvegen, or continue from the highest pilgrim cairn and further to the Nature cathedral, about 30 mins from the trail crossing.
The road to Sangefjell has a toll road (credit card and cash).
The hike is about 7 km long tour/return and takes about 2 - 3 hours.
