Discover maritime history at Hardanger Maritime Centre with hands-on workshops and family activities.

A family-friendly maritime centre with open workshops year-round and plenty of fun activities for families during the summer season. Here, you can experience Norway’s only operational rope-making lane, see the blacksmith at work in the forge, and witness traditional boat building throughout the year. In the summer, you can build your own toy boat, twist rope, construct a log house, and learn knots. You can also rent traditional rowboats and take a trip on the fjord. Guided tours every day at 1:00 PM during the high season, and by appointment for groups at other times. Maritime films are shown in the cinema room. There’s also a café with sweet and savory treats, as well as a museum shop offering maritime products.

The Hardanger Maritime Centre is part of the Hardanger and Voss Museum network, and together with the Folgefonn Centre, Kraftmuseet, and the Olav H. Hauge Centre, they offer a Summer Pass. When you purchase a full-price ticket at the first location, you’ll receive a Summer Pass that gives you a 50% discount at the other partner museums.

In June 2025, they opened a new visitor centre, featuring exhibitions, a cinema, and a café. Read more about it here: https://fartoyvern.no/en/kulturnaustet/
