De fabriek werd opgericht in 1894 en is tegenwoordig aangewezen als nationaal erfgoed ter herinnering aan de Noorse textielindustrie.

Tegenwoordig is de fabriek een levend museum met een eigen elektriciteitscentrale, ververij, spinnerij, weverij en appretuurafdeling. Tijdens de rondleidingen worden de verschillende machines en productieprocessen gedemonstreerd. Ook is er fabrieksverkoop, zijn er wisselende exposities en is er een café.
