Cycle the Unionsleden

Do you enjoy an active holiday the best?

Now you can cycle parts of the Union Trail from the train station in Moss to Ørje. The cycle route goes all the way to Karlstad, but because the border now is closed there will be a stop in Ørje.

The Unionsleden (Unionsleden) from Moss to Karlstad which opens in the summer of 2021 goes through Indre Østfold. The bike route has not yet been officially opened, but it is signposted, so you can go for a ride.

The Union Trail goes through a rolling natural landscape with beautiful lakes and woodland, and when you cycle you have plenty of time to see the landscape and the little unique gems that emerge along the route. The shared historical legacy of union time and other important historical events are woven in. Spydeberg vicarage to name one - Here our constitution was saved. The best-documented 18th-century garden can also be found here. Other sights we can mention Solbergfoss Power Station, Høytorp Fort, Halden Canal, etc.

Transportation

When it comes to transport, we have to apologize and say that per this day, we have a limited offer when it comes to transport between Moss and Karlstad. But we hope to find a better solution in the years to come. But it is possible to get back, so that is said.

As it is per today (summer 2024) there are basically 2 options for return transport by bicycle
- Transport by Taxi Dalsland
- Transport with Värmlandstrafik to Töcksfors - cycle yourself / tranportation by Visit Indre Østfold to Mysen - Train from Mysen to Oslo.
- The Flix bus only takes folding bicycles.

With Värmlandstrafik - Karlstad - Töcksfors
Värmland traffic does not take electric bikes - Only goes to Töcksfors. See more info further down.

See timetables on which you can take the bus

is it possible to order and take the bike on the bus from Karlstad to Töcksfors t/ r (10 June – 11 Aug 2024). Note. It is not possible to take an electric bike with you - see info further up). This route only takes you to Töcksfors. There is a maximum of 2 bikes per bus. There is no additional cost beyond the single ticket for the person. The distance between Töcksfors and Mysen is 24 km.

Töcksfors - Mysen - Here you have two options 24 km
- Cycle yourself
- Contact Visit Indre Østfold
at post@visitindre.no you can book transport between Töcksfors and Mysen. It costs NOK. NOK 500 per pers. And will leave from Töcksfors at 15.00 on Tuesdays in the period 25 June and until 13 August.

Mysen - Oslo - Possibly Moss
From Mysen, it is possible to take the bicycle on the train with VY. Here you can take the train to Oslo and then further on to Moss.

Flixbus has a route between Oslo and Karlstad, here it is in reality not possible to bring a bicycle. They don't take electric bikes, tandem bikes. the only thing is folding bicycles as special luggage between Karlstad - Oslo. From Oslo to Moss, it is possible to order and take it on the train.

Facts Unionsleden
The trail runs on the Norwegian side from Moss-Våler-Spydeberg-Askim-Mysen-Ørje. There is also a northern route that runs around Trøgstad.

Nice around trip on the Norwegian side
Take the train to Moss - take the northern track to Ørje, and the southern track back to Askim and the train to Oslo.
