Egge museum

- A centre of power for thousands of years

Egge Museum is a natural stop for this years family holiday; exciting, safe and fun for children of all ages!

Walk in the footsteps of the Viking chiefs at Egge. This was home to the most powerful chiefs of the Vikings; Trond Haka, Olve and Kalv Arnesson, the latter was among those who gathered the peasants to fight against Olav Haraldsson in the battle of Stiklestad in 1030. Today you can find a reconstructed manor garden from early 1900s at the Egge courtyard. You can enjoy the view of the whole city or take a walk along the burial mounds on the Sigrid trail (Sigridstien). Skilled and knowledgable guides willingly communicate the history of the place.

The cultural landscape at Egge - A Viking landscape
The cultural landscape is maintained by grazing animals during the summer season, and a number of hiking trails make both Egge woods and the Eggevammen popular hiking destinations for young and old. You can observe burial mounds from the Viking Age like pearls on a string along the Eggevammen, and they lead you into the yard of Egge farm - a chief's seat with a thousand-year history, well known from the sagas.

The open air museum
At the open-air museum, you get an insight into what it was like to live on a medium-sized farm in the latter half of the 19th century. It is full of "old-fashioned kids" who inspire play and exploration of the large museum area. Let the children join in the activities or participate themselves. Feed the animals, bake, whittle, hesje (drying hay ton hayracks) or ride horses the old-fashioned way. Attend storytelling sessions and join guided tours at set times. In the kiosk you can buy coffee, waffles, ice cream and soft drinks, every day throughout the summer.

The courtyard of the open-air museum is surrounded by a complete 19th century farm environment with houses and equipment. You can see the largest collection of old agricultural equipment north of Dovre, as well as contemporary interiors and exteriors from the region. If you follow the path past the farm pond and through Egge woods, you will come to the museum's hydropower plant in Østbyfossen, with a grinder, stomp and ascent saw.

Steinkjer history
On the 1st floor above the cafe you will find Bygata (the city street); where you can learn about old Steinkjer's history and business life. For Steinkjer people, this brings back many old memories. For you, it can offer many interesting historical insights.

The chirldrens museum:
The area is safe and child-friendly, and throughout the season you can take the children and greet both rabbits, pigs, chickens, chickens, sheep and horses at the open-air museum. The new exhibition TRAKTOR will be of interest for many tractor-crazy childres. In the main building there are several play corners for the children and up in the Bygata (city street) the children can run a shop the old-fashioned way.

Welcome!
