Heddal Stave Church

Step inside Heddal Stave Church, the largest stave church in Norway! Dating back to the 13th century, this grand wooden masterpiece is a national cultural treasure renowned for its three impressive spires and extraordinary craftsmanship. Located in the picturesque countryside of Heddal near Notodden in Telemark, the church has served as a vital community gathering place for centuries. Built during the transition period between Paganism and Christianity, its elaborate wood carvings and ornamentation blend pagan symbols with Christian iconography.

Heddal Stave Church is far more than a historical monument—it remains an active parish church for the local community for much of the year.
