Join a guided historical walking tour in Tromsø and learn how the city developed, with insights into Sami history, culture and mythology.

This tour is operated by Sami Walking Experience.

The tour begins at Perspektivet Museum and takes you through Tromsø city centre, with stops at several historic sites connected to the people and events that have shaped the city from its founding in 1794 to the present day.

Together, the landmarks reveal how Tromsø's history connects across generations and how the city developed into the Arctic destination it is today.

Along the way, you will learn about Sami history and culture through interactive storytelling. You will also receive an introduction to Sami mythology from a Sami culture bearer who grew up learning these stories in the same way as generations before him.

This historical walking tour lasts approximately 2.5 hours, covers around 1.6 km through Tromsø city centre and includes one seated break. The route is wheelchair accessible.

Although the experience is not designed for young children, teenagers aged 12–17 may participate when accompanied by an adult.

Important:

  • The tour is primarily conducted in English, so guests should have a good understanding of the language.
  • Norwegian may also be available for Norwegian-speaking guests.

Included: Local guide with extensive experience in education and storytelling, rooted in a Sami cultural upbringing
