The story behind Kirk's Bar

After returning from his adventures as a ski instructor for Hollywood celebrities in the majestic Rocky Mountains, Gaustablikk founder Olav Svartdal was invited to take on an exciting role as a stunt double for none other than Kirk Douglas.

Svartdal said he would take the job for 1 million kroner—and his price was accepted. Little did he know the fee was actually in dollars. This unexpected windfall became the key to realizing his dream. Gaustablikk Mountain Resort was built in 1970, with the majestic mountain landscape serving as the backdrop for this incredible story.

And that is how Kirk's Bar & Lounge got its name.
