Experience the rich history and craftsmanship of Lindesnes through unique artifacts and over 11,000 captivating photographs in a modern museum full of character.
Lindesnes Rural Museum, located at Kulturtorvet in Vigeland, has an extensive collection of around 2,500 artifacts. The majority of the collection is stored in the museum’s open storage in the basement. Here you will find textiles from the district dating back to the second half of the 19th century, valuable woodcarvings, and tools connected to the environment around Herstøl, the old crofter’s farm where Tarald and his son Elias Louen lived and worked.
The museum also houses a variety of old farm tools, carpenter and shoemaker equipment, as well as a unique knife collection from the same period, which is well worth seeing during a visit. There are also items related to the coastal traditions of the municipality, along with other objects illustrating life in the community in earlier times.
The museum provides a broad insight into the life and craft traditions of Lindesnes throughout history. Since 2009, the entire collection has been gathered under one roof, making it easily accessible to the public in beautiful, modern premises at Kulturtorvet.
In addition to the artifacts, the museum holds a large photo collection with over 11,000 digitized images related to the municipality. A large part of these photos were collected by the Lindesnes Youth Association, and the photo collection is supplemented with many other borrowed photographs, offering a unique visual insight into the municipality’s history.
