SANDNES

Melshei

Melshei is a popular forest area in Sandnes for hiking year-round.

This is the area in Sandnes that is best suited for outdoor recreation. A lot of the hikes are also accessible for prams or wheelchairs, and the illuminated trail in Melshei opens up for training trips and some rare but welcome ski trips on some winter evenings.

If you want walks in greater solitude, there is a whole network of narrower paths. The open-air areas are forested, but the vegetation is very different. From Melshei, there are several gateways to the Rogaland Arboretum where the diversity of trees is large and international.

The area also offers a number of nice viewing peaks such as mountains: Steinfjellet, Melsheinuten and Oslifjellet.

Sandnes municipality has marked trails and set up a number of information boards that point to hiking opportunities. In Melshei there is also rich wildlife. If you are lucky you can meet elk, deer and hare. The area is also frequently used for berry and mushroom picking.

Trail: Marked. A number of possibilities. A total of 12 km of trails and 10 km of roads. Several hiking trails are suitable for prams and wheelchairs. Illuminated trail of 5 km. Worth seeing: The cultural heritage trail at Myklabust, Nonsberget and Pålsberget.
