One week mountain biking in Northern Norway at the Lyngenfjord included local guide, transfers and accommodation.
Lyngenfjord is probably the hottest mountain bike destination in Northern Norway right now. Biking in the high Arctic is different to anything you ever did before: Natural trails are leading you down from the summits to sea, the silent of the north, the fjords, glaciers and mountains and the magical light phenomena like the midnight sun or the northern lights gives you a memorable experience you will not forget.
A local certified mountain bike guide will show you the region. Beside the knowledge about the best trails you will get as well a inside information about the region, the nature and the local culture that is a melting pot between Norwegian, Sami and Kven people.
Accommodation and food:
During this week, we will stay at different places around the Lyngenfjord to ride the best trails in the region. We use small mountain biker- hostels, apartments and cabins at the sea. All of them offer biker friendly services and some of them as well sauna and outdoor hot tub.
We always get served local produced food in the evenings like fresh fish, reindeer or lamb. At the breakfast table we will do a packed lunch for the day.
Bike rides at the Lyngenfjord are not comparable to the ones in central Europe. Before you can hop on your bike for the downhill, you have to pedal, carry or hike your bike to the top on the trails. Most trails are natural and rated S2 – S3.
Sometimes we will go on several smaller rides on one day, to maximize our experience. Expect 500 – 1000 altitude meters and about 25 km a day.
Day 1 – Saturday:
Arrival: Flights to Tromsø (TOS). Once everybody has arrived, we will drive to Lyngseidet in the heart of the Lyngen Alps, where we check in at the popular Magic Mountain Lodge. Welcome Dinner.
Day 2 – Sunday: After breakfast, we will ride the trails in Lyngen. Golden Trail, Banana Trail or Skihytta trails are they called and will give you a first impression about the destinations. In the evening we can use the sauna before we get served a dinner at the lodge.
Day 3 – Monday:
Today, we will pack our luggage and take the ferry over the Lyngenfjord. In Sørkjosen, we will stay for two nights to ride the trails around the Reisafjord. Dinner at a restaurant nearby.
Day 4 – Tuesday:
Fishing is an important part of lifestyle at the coast and today you have the chance to try your luck (added cost). Those, who are not interested in fishing, will go with the guide to explore more trails in the closer region.
We may eat fresh fish today or when we haven’t been lucky, we will have a dinner at a restaurant close by.
Day 5 – Wednesday:
We pack our luggage again and we will drive into the spectacular Kåfjord valley, where we will have some rides with shuttle support up to 700 meters.
After riding, we will proceed to our cabins at the sea in Skibotn, where we will stay for another two nights.
Day 6 – Thursday:
Skibotn offers a huge number of trails in a very dry climate and attracts therefore as well many local riders. In our camp we can use the outdoor hot tub one day and take a bath in the Skibotn river. Dinner is served in a nearby restaurant.
Day 7 – Friday:
We need again to pack and on our way to Lyngseidet, we will ride one of the trails in the souther part of the Lyngenfjord before we come back to the Magic Mountain Lodge, where we stayed the first two nights. Farewell dinner.
