Explore nature's amazing diversity – right in the city centre

Discover plants from all over the world, stand in the middle of a tropical storm and meet the dinosaurs! Oslo’s Natural History Museum invites you to explore the diversity of nature in the  Botanical Garden and exhibitions on zoology, geology and climate changes. The museum owns Norway's largest collection of natural objects, many of which are made available to the public.

Exhibitions
In the geological exhibition you are greeted by Stan, a full-size Tyrannosaurus Rex. This exhibition also features the fossil known as Ida, the world’s oldest complete primate skeleton and the most valuable object exhibited at the museum. Other highlights include rocks from the moon, marine reptiles, the world's finest silver crystals and a great sea scorpion.

In the zoological exhibitions you can study taxidermied animals from all over the world. The animals are placed in authentic habitats, such as bird cliffs or beaver dams. You’ll get to see Arctic wildlife, penguins in the Antarctic, chimpanzees and okapi in African rain forests and much, much more.

The Climate House is the first exhibition venue in the Nordics dedicated to climate and climate changes. The house’s interactive exhibitions teach you about how climate systems work, about different scenarios for the future and possible solutions to the challenges we face. You’ll also be encouraged to take action yourself!

The Botanical Garden with its numerous beautiful flowers and trees – 5 500 different plant species in total – is a place for recreation as well as for learning.

Museum shop and café
The Natural History Museum’s extensive museum shop offers great gifts and souvenirs, such as real fossils, beautiful minerals, models of animals, gardening tools, posters, books and much more.

The café on site serves good coffee, cold beverages, lunch dishes made from scratch and tasty cakes and pastries, focusing on local and ecological ingredients.

Other info
The museum has free entrance on Thursday (except during school’s summer vacation and on holidays). The Botanical Garden is always free to visit. The Natural History Museum is located in the heart of Oslo, right between the neighbourhoods of Grünerløkka and Tøyen.
