Northern Lights Tour by Bus

This tour is operated by Destination Tromsø.

Join us on a Northern Lights chase to carefully selected locations where the chances of seeing this natural phenomenon are at their best.

Departing from Tromsø city centre, your guides will welcome you aboard the bus and share their knowledge about the Northern Lights, including the science behind the aurora and the legends connected to this magical phenomenon.

Tromsø is an excellent starting point for a Northern Lights chase, surrounded by several different climate zones that can be reached within one evening. Depending on the forecast and local conditions, our guides may choose to drive towards the coastal islands or head inland towards clearer skies, sometimes even towards the Finnish border.

If we are lucky enough to see the Northern Lights dancing across the sky, we stop in a safe location away from city light pollution. To help keep you warm, our guides will offer hot drinks while we wait outside and enjoy the spectacle.

Our photography guide will help you capture the moment, either by taking your portrait with the aurora or by helping you set up your own camera. Depending on weather conditions and the strength and duration of the aurora display, we may stay in one location or move between several stops during the evening.

At the end of the night, we return to Tromsø city centre, hopefully with beautiful memories of the Northern Lights and plenty of photos to take home.

Important information:
• The return time to Tromsø depends on how the tour unfolds, including the distance of the chase, weather conditions and the Northern Lights display.

• The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and can never be guaranteed. However, we use our experience and local knowledge to maximise the chances of a successful chase.

• There is no refund if the Northern Lights do not appear. However, you can book a second tour with a 50% discount at the Destination Tromsø Shop in Tromsø.

• This tour does not include dinner or a full meal.

• Pets are not allowed on this tour.

• Alcohol consumption is not allowed on the tour. We reserve the right to refuse access to guests who are intoxicated.

• Minimum age to participate is 4 years.

Accessibility:
• There are no specific accessibility features on board the bus, such as a wheelchair lift or wide aisle.

• The tour may be accessible for guests using a manual wheelchair, walker or cane who can independently get on and off the bus using the stairs, possibly several times during the evening. There are up to 6 steps.

• The toilet facilities on board the bus are very small and offer limited space to move.

• Wheelblades may be useful for guests using a walker or wheelchair.

• The outdoor terrain at the stops may vary and can be challenging to move around on.

Please bring: Warm winter clothing, preferably in layers of wool, a down jacket, hat, mittens, scarf, warm socks and a camera and tripod, optional.
