Reindeer Feeding and Sámi Culture – Afternoon

This tour is operated by Tromsø Lapland.

The camp is located around 50 minutes from Tromsø city centre, in a beautiful valley surrounded by mountains.

Here, you will meet the reindeer, with the opportunity to feed them, pet them and take photos in scenic surroundings.

After spending time with the reindeer, you will gather inside the lavvu, a traditional Sámi tent. A Sámi guide will share stories about Sámi culture, traditions and everyday life as a reindeer herder. You will hear about reindeer herding, traditional customs, courtship traditions and personal stories passed down through the guide's family. There will also be opportunities to ask questions along the way.

A traditional Sámi lunch of bidos will be served. Bidos is a warming reindeer stew made with potatoes and carrots in a brown gravy. A vegan alternative is also available, consisting of a Norwegian-style vegetable soup made with potatoes, swede, carrots, onion, leek, seasoning and stock. The soup is gluten-free.

Accessibility for guests with reduced mobility:

Included:

• Return transport from Tromsø city centre

• Approximately 30-minute introduction to Sámi culture with a Sámi guide
• Winter suit, boot covers, hat and mittens

Meeting time and place: 12:45 PM in front of the main entrance to the Radisson Blu Hotel, Sjøgata 7, Tromsø. Look for a guide wearing a blue luhkka (traditional Sámi poncho).

Departure time: 1:00 PM (13:00)

Duration: Approx. 4.5 hours. Return to the Radisson Blu Hotel at around 5:30 PM (17:30).

Important information:

• It is possible to travel to the camp independently. The address is Sjursnesvegen 144, 9027 Ramfjordbotn, Norway. If you choose this option, please arrive by 2:00 PM (14:00) to ensure you can participate in the full programme.

• Please be aware that driving on Norwegian roads in winter can be challenging. If you are not experienced in driving on snow and ice, we recommend using the included bus transport.

• This tour follows the same programme as the 10:00 AM departure.
