Reindeer Feeding and Sámi Culture – Autumn Morning

Important information: Due to ongoing roadworks, the bridge connecting Tromsø Island to the mainland is currently closed and is expected to remain closed until 1 November. This will result in longer travel times, and the tour is therefore expected to return to Tromsø at around 3:00 PM (15:00).

This tour is operated by Tromsø Lapland.

Join a reindeer feeding experience surrounded by the changing colours of the Northern Norwegian autumn, beautiful fjords and mountain peaks covered in the season's first snow. The camp is located around 50 minutes from Tromsø city centre, in scenic natural surroundings.

Upon arrival, you will have the opportunity to meet and feed the reindeer and take photos. There will be time to get close to the animals and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

After spending time with the reindeer, you will gather inside a traditional Sámi lavvu, where a warm, homemade lunch of bidos will be served. Bidos is a traditional Sámi reindeer stew. A vegan alternative is also available, consisting of a Norwegian-style vegetable soup made with potatoes, swede, carrots, onion, leek, seasoning and stock. The soup is gluten-free.

A Sámi guide will introduce you to Sámi culture and traditions, sharing insights into Sámi history and ways of life. There will also be opportunities to ask questions along the way.

Please bring: A camera and warm clothing. We recommend avoiding trainers, especially white ones, as the ground may be wet and muddy.

Meeting time and place: 9:45 AM (09:45) in front of the main entrance to Radisson Blu Hotel, Sjøgata 7, Tromsø. Look for a guide wearing a blue luhkka (traditional Sámi poncho).

Departure time: 10:00 AM (10:00)

Duration: Approx. 4.5 hours. The usual return time to Radisson Blu Hotel is 2:30 PM (14:30). Due to ongoing roadworks, the tour is expected to return at around 3:00 PM (15:00) until 1 November.
