Reindeer Feeding and Sami Culture – Short Tour

This tour is operated by Tromsø Lapland.

Join a shorter reindeer experience from Tromsø, where you can feed reindeer and learn about Sámi culture, history and traditions.

The tour begins with a scenic bus journey from Tromsø city centre to the camp in Breivikeidet, a beautiful valley surrounded by mountains, forests and fjords.

Upon arrival, you will be welcomed inside a traditional Sámi lavvu. Here, a Sámi guide will introduce you to Sámi culture, history and ways of life. You will hear stories about reindeer herding, traditional clothing, spiritual beliefs, family life and customs that continue to shape Sámi communities today.

After the introduction, it is time to meet the reindeer. Inside the enclosure, you can get close to a herd of up to 100 reindeer as they gather for their morning feeding. You will have the opportunity to feed them by hand or with a bucket, take photos and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Your guide will accompany you throughout the experience, sharing insights into reindeer herding and Sámi culture while answering any questions along the way.

Meeting time and place: 10:00 AM (10:00) at Prostneset Bus Terminal, Tromsø. Look for a guide wearing a blue luhkka (traditional Sámi poncho).

Departure time: 10:15 AM (10:15)

Duration: Approx. 3.5 hours. Return to Prostneset Bus Terminal by 1:45 PM (13:45).
