Reindeer Sledding and Sámi Culture with Lunch

This tour is operated by Tromsø Lapland.

The camp is located around 50 minutes from Tromsø city centre, in a beautiful valley surrounded by mountains, with views towards the Lyngen Alps.

Upon arrival, Sámi guides will take you on an approximately 20-minute reindeer sled ride through the winter landscape. Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to meet the reindeer up close, feed them and take photos in scenic surroundings.

After spending time with the reindeer, you will enjoy a traditional Sámi lunch of bidos, a warming reindeer stew made with potatoes and carrots. A vegan alternative is also available, consisting of a Norwegian-style vegetable soup made with potatoes, swede, carrots, onion, leek, seasoning and stock. The soup is gluten-free.

After lunch, a Sámi guide will introduce you to Sámi culture, traditions and life with reindeer herding. Through stories and personal anecdotes, you will gain insight into Sámi culture and ways of life. There will also be opportunities to ask questions along the way.

Included:

• Return transport from Tromsø city centre
• Approximately 20-minute reindeer sled ride

Meeting time and place: 9:45 AM (09:45) in front of the main entrance to the Radisson Blu Hotel, Sjøgata 7, Tromsø. Look for a guide wearing a blue luhkka (traditional Sámi poncho).

Departure time: 10:00 AM (10:00)

Duration: Approx. 4.5 hours. Return to the Radisson Blu Hotel by 2:30 PM (14:30).

Important information:

• The reindeer sled ride is dependent on suitable snow conditions, and its duration may be adjusted. If weather conditions prevent the sled ride from taking place, you will receive a partial refund. The remainder of the tour will continue as planned.

• The maximum weight limit for the sled ride is 120 kg per person.

• It is possible to travel to the camp independently. The address is Sjursnesvegen 144, 9027 Ramfjordbotn, Norway. If you choose this option, please arrive by 11:00 AM (11:00) to ensure you can participate in the full programme.

• Please be aware that driving on Norwegian roads in winter can be challenging. If you are not experienced in driving on snow and ice, we recommend using the included bus transport.

• This tour follows the same programme as the 1:00 PM (13:00) departure.
