Reindeer Sledding, Feeding and Northern Lights

This tour is operated by Tromsø Lapland.

The camp is located around 50 minutes from Tromsø city centre, in a valley surrounded by mountains and Arctic scenery, away from the city's light pollution.

Upon arrival, Sámi guides will take you on an approximately 20-minute reindeer sled ride through the Arctic winter darkness. On clear evenings, you may enjoy views of the starry sky and perhaps even catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights dancing overhead.

After the sled ride, you will have the opportunity to meet the reindeer up close, feed them and take photos in the peaceful surroundings.

You will then enjoy a traditional Sámi dinner of bidos, a warming reindeer stew made with potatoes and carrots. A vegan alternative is also available, consisting of a Norwegian-style vegetable soup made with potatoes, swede, carrots, onion, leek, seasoning and stock. The soup is gluten-free.

After the meal, a Sámi guide will introduce you to Sámi culture, history and traditions. Through stories and tales, you will gain insight into Sámi culture and ways of life. There will also be opportunities to ask questions along the way.

Meeting time and place: 5:45 PM (17:45) in front of the main entrance to Radisson Blu Hotel, Sjøgata 7, Tromsø. Look for a guide wearing a blue luhkka (traditional Sámi poncho).

Departure time: 6:00 PM (18:00)

Duration: Approx. 4.5 hours. Return to Radisson Blu Hotel by 10:30 PM (22:30).

Important information:

• The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon, and sightings cannot be guaranteed.

• The reindeer sled ride is dependent on suitable snow conditions, and its duration may be adjusted. If weather conditions prevent the sled ride from taking place, you will receive a partial refund. The remainder of the tour will continue as planned.

• The maximum weight limit for the sled ride is 120 kg per person.

• Temperatures in the area can drop as low as -30°C. Make sure to dress warmly for the weather conditions.

• It is possible to travel to the camp independently. The address is Sjursnesvegen 144, 9027 Ramfjordbotn, Norway.

• Please be aware that driving on Norwegian roads in winter can be challenging. If you are not experienced in driving on snow and ice, we recommend using the included bus transport.
