Walk to where a meteorite crash landed 500 million years ago.
The Ritland Crater is a unique natural site. In and around the crater, you can still find evidence of 500 million years of geological history, as well as traces of the impact itself, fossil-rich rock and rare mountain plants in e.g. Øyastølmyra nature reserve.
You need some fantasy to see the crater form in the landscape, but even if you are not a geologist, this is a beautiful hiking area.
There is also a permanent exposition about the crater in the Sande Næringsbygg, an office-building closeby the ferry terminal in Hjelmelandsvågen!
