Visit a small reindeer herd, learn about Sámi culture and enjoy a warm meal in a traditional lavvu, with the chance to see the Northern Lights at Camp Tamok.

This tour is operated by Destination Tromsø.

Leave the city lights behind and travel by bus from Tromsø to Camp Tamok, a wilderness camp in the Tamok Valley. The journey takes approximately 90 minutes each way.

Upon arrival, your guide will provide a thermal suit, winter boots and mittens. A short minibus transfer will then take you to meet a small herd of five or six reindeer.

During the visit, your guide will share stories about Sámi culture, traditions and the relationship between the Sámi people, reindeer and nature. You will also have the opportunity to feed the reindeer and see them up close.

Camp Tamok’s remote location and limited light pollution provide favourable conditions for seeing the Northern Lights. However, the aurora is a natural phenomenon, and sightings cannot be guaranteed.

After visiting the reindeer, you will return to Camp Tamok and gather around the fire in a traditional Sámi lavvu. A warm meal and hot drinks will be served before the bus journey back to Tromsø.
