Sola beach

Solastranden beach was once named one of the most beautiful beaches by the Sunday Times!

Solastranden is shallow, therefore it is a popular spot for kiters and surfers on windy days. At the north end, the Sola Strand Hotel and the Solastranden golf course are located. In the vicinity of the beach are war memorials, such as bunkers and remnants of cannon positions. With Solastranden as your starting point, you can also hike along the beach and the coast five kilometres southwards to Vigdel for a great walk with swimming opportunities, both on the beach and along rocky cliffs.

Rich bird life

Solastranden and the entire coastline of beaches in the area (commonly known as Jærstrendene) are popular places for birdlife on the way north and south, all year round. You can explore a rich and varied birdlife in the area, and there is, therefore, a leash restriction throughout the year in areas under the Jæren landscape conservation area. There are also rules for when you can carry out activities that may disturb bird life, such as surfing, sailing and kiting. Please familiarise yourself with where and when you can engage in these activities.

Watersports

Surfing is fun all year, and for beginners, go on a surfing course with Boretunet or Bore Surf Senter. For beginners, summer is good for surfing as the waves are often a little smaller then. For the more experienced surfers, the conditions are more rewarding in autumn. Remember, however, it is prohibited to surf/board sail/kite on beaches affected by bird protection from 1 October to 31 March. Kiting is only possible on the following beaches: Sola, Hellestø, Byberg, Bore and Brusand.
