Join us on a breathtaking tour along Kvaløya’s coastal road and Sommarøy, featuring scenic views, wildlife, dramatic fjords, sandy beaches and mountains.
This tour is operated by Wondering Reindeer.
Join a guided journey from Tromsø to the island of Sommarøy, combining Arctic coastal scenery, Sámi history and culture, and lunch at Sommarøy Arctic Hotel.
The tour begins with a scenic drive towards Kvaløya, where your Sámi guide shares stories about the history, traditions and everyday life of the Sámi people. Learn about both reindeer-herding and Sea Sámi communities, how Sámi culture has developed over time, and the traditional Sámi names and stories connected to the local fjords and mountains.
As you travel along the coast, there will be several stops to enjoy the scenery and take photographs. Kvaløya is known for its mountains, fjords, white sandy beaches and clear Arctic waters. Keep an eye out for wildlife along the way, including reindeer, moose, otters, eagles and seabirds. Wildlife sightings depend on the conditions and cannot be guaranteed.
At approximately 12:30 PM, you will stop for lunch at Sommarøy Arctic Hotel, overlooking the sea. The restaurant offers a selection of dishes, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options available. Depending on the day, lunch may be served from the restaurant menu or as a buffet.
After lunch and some time to enjoy the surroundings on Sommarøy, the journey continues back to Tromsø. The tour ends at Scandic Ishavshotel at approximately 3:15 PM (15:15).
This experience is ideal for visitors who want to discover the coastal landscapes around Tromsø while learning more about Sámi history, culture and local traditions.
