A journey into the wild and through history
Setting off from Longyearbyen, we head straight into the untamed wilderness, gliding through vast valleys that lead to the shores of the stunning Sassenfjord. The highlight of the tour is a visit to Villa Fredheim, the historic trapper’s station once home to the legendary Hilmar Nøis, known as the "King of Sassen."
Nøis, famous for spending 38 winters on Svalbard, chose the life of a trapper after seasickness dashed his dreams of becoming a fisherman. Unlike the stark and simple trapping huts found elsewhere on Svalbard, Villa Fredheim stood out as a true Arctic palace. Complete with a flagpole, potted plants, and curtains, this two-storey station was a remarkable testament to Nøis’s ingenuity and vision. Your guide will bring his incredible story to life, offering a glimpse into the challenges and triumphs of life in the Arctic wilderness.
Lunch with a view
During the tour, we’ll stop to enjoy an expedition-style lunch at one of the many spectacular viewpoints. Perhaps it will be atop Fjordnibba, where the breathtaking vistas stretch across the majestic Tempelfjellet and the Von Post Glacier at the innermost part of Tempelfjorden. Surrounded by silence and untouched beauty, this is an experience that will leave a lasting impression.
Nature and wildlife
Your guide will ensure the journey is both safe and enriching, sharing insights about the natural and historical wonders of the area. With a bit of luck, we may even encounter some of Svalbard’s iconic wildlife. From the elegant Svalbard ptarmigan and agile Arctic fox to the occasional reindeer, every tour offers its own unique surprises.
Driver’s licence requirements
To drive a snowmobile, a valid car or motorbike driver’s licence is mandatory—don’t forget to bring it with you! Before the tour begins, our guide will verify all licences. Please ensure your licence is valid for use in Svalbard and Jan Mayen. If you’re uncertain, we recommend contacting the relevant authorities in advance. Unfortunately, we cannot offer refunds if a licence is deemed invalid.
What to wear
Staying warm is key to enjoying your Arctic adventure! Dress in woollen layers, including woollen underwear, warm trousers, and a sturdy wool jumper under your snowmobile suit. Packing a small backpack with extra clothing—such as an additional jacket, a woollen hat, and mittens—is also a great idea. Being prepared for Svalbard’s chilly conditions ensures you’ll be comfortable and ready for anything.

Safety guidelines
Your safety is our highest priority. Snowmobile driving is not recommended for pregnant women, and driving under the influence of alcohol is strictly prohibited, as the Road Traffic Act (Vegtrafikkloven) applies on Svalbard.
Weather and snow conditions on Svalbard can be unpredictable. For this reason, we may adjust the tour route or destination to ensure the safety of all participants. While changes might be necessary, they will not affect the tour price. Additionally, tour leaders will not carry passengers on their snowmobiles.
Language requirement
As your safety is our top priority, clear communication is essential. To join one of our excursions, it is required that you can speak and understand either English or one of the Scandinavian languages. This ensures you can follow the guide's directions and fully enjoy your experience.
Expert guides

Many have completed the Arctic Nature Guide programme, while others are certified mountain or glacier guides, or hold Svalbard Guide Training (SGO) certification.
