How to get to Træet gård on Osterøy:

The location of Træet gård on Osterøy, Norway’s largest inland island, is truly special. Although the farm is on Osterøy, it belongs to the neighbouring municipality of Vaksdal. In earlier times, the sea and fjords were the main transport routes - not roads over mountains and valleys as we know today. A road to Træet gård was only built after the farm ceased operations.

The cobblestone path “Stabbesteinsvegen” runs from Veafjorden past the farm and further into Osterøy. This is a unique cultural heritage road -built by hand to allow goods, people, and livestock to travel from fjord to mountain and back.

Access by private car: About 1½ hours’ drive from Bergen. Drive north from Bergen towards Voss and turn off at the Osterøy Bridge. Follow Bruvikvegen, then turn off towards Hakanes and continue along the winding road. At Vassdalstjørni, turn right towards Hesjedalen/Træet (small sign).

It is also possible to drive via Lonevåg–Njåstad. This alternative is not much longer, and the road has been significantly upgraded. It is no longer a toll road. You may also check the ferry schedule and take the Breistein–Valestrand ferry; from Valestrand it is a short drive to Lonevåg.

Overnight guests can park at Blomdalsleitet, where there is parking for landowners and cabin users. The road beyond the gate is locked and must not be used without agreement with Bergen and Hordaland Turlag. From the gate, it is a 900-metre walk to the cabin. The road from Vassdalstjørni to Blomdalsleitet is a gravel road of varying standard. To park at Blomdalsleitet, you must have booked accommodation in advance or be participating in an organised activity at Træet farm arranged by BHT.

By bus: The nearest regular stop is in Bruvik, 13 km away. You can follow the road or combine it with a hike. If you choose the latter, expect a 4–6 hour hike from Bruvik.
