Union Geiranger Resort & Spa is a family-owned hotel in the small fjord village of Geiranger, with views of the Geirangerfjord and the surrounding mountains. Four generations of the Mjelva family have run the hotel since it was built in 1891, originally as a wooden building in the Swiss chalet style. Today, the hotel has 197 rooms and suites, restaurants and bars, spa and wellness facilities, indoor and outdoor pools, a fitness room, a children's playroom and flexible conference facilities.
In the Heart of Geiranger
The hotel is centrally located in the village, close to some of the most popular sights. Right outside the door, you can start the Storfossen waterfall walk down towards the fjord, bringing you close to the waterfall and the forces of nature. Opposite the hotel is the Norwegian Fjord Centre, the visitor centre for the Geirangerfjord World Heritage Site. From here, it is also easy to continue on fjord cruises, kayaking and RIB tours, or hikes to nearby peaks and historic mountain farms such as Storsæterfossen, Vesteråsfjellet, Løsta and Skageflå.
Spa and Wellness
All hotel guests have access to Union Bad, the hotel's pool area, with a heated indoor pool, children's pool, sauna and a heated outdoor therapy pool with mountain views. For a more complete experience, Union Spa offers 1,500 square metres of wellness facilities, including experience showers, a Japanese hot pool, hydrowalk, steam bath and saunas, as well as relaxation areas with views of the fjord landscape. Access to Union Spa can be booked separately, and a range of face and body treatments is available.
Food and Drink
At Restaurant Fjorden, guests can enjoy breakfast and a varied selection of dinner dishes, while Restaurant Julie serves lunch and à la carte dinner. Café Løsta, by the pool area, is a good choice for a lighter lunch, and Union Bar & Lounge is a natural spot for a drink or a bite to eat. The hotel has its own sommeliers and a wine cellar holding around 7,000 bottles.
Meetings and Conferences
Union Geiranger has a long tradition as a meeting place, with flexible venues for everything from small gatherings to conferences with up to around 500 participants. As a family-owned hotel outside the large chains, Union Geiranger can offer close, personal follow-up throughout the event, from planning to the departure of the last guest.
History, De Historiske and the Vintage Car Museum
Union Geiranger is a member of De Historiske Hotel & Spisesteder, an association of Norwegian hotels and restaurants known for their strong local identity and traditions of hospitality. The hotel's history is closely tied to tourism in Geiranger, which dates back to the first cruise ship arriving in the fjord in 1869. Restored vintage cars from this pioneering era are today on display in the hotel's own Vintage Car Museum.
Care for the Surroundings
The hotel is Eco-Lighthouse certified and certified through the KuttMatsvinn food-waste reduction programme, and works systematically to reduce resource use and food waste. Among other measures, food waste is processed in a bioreactor that turns it into soil.
