Vinjestoga is the childhood home of the poet, journalist and linguist Aasmund Olavsson Vinje (1818-1870).

Vinjestoga is the childhood home of the poet, journalist and linguist Aasmund Olavsson Vinje (1818-1870). Here you can listen to stories about everyday life in Vinje's home, about how he became one of Norway's foremost poets, and about the journalist Vinje. Aasmund Olavsson Vinje was the poor smallholder's son who became one of our most famous poets and writers. A lot of his poems are Norwegian classics, "Blåmann", "Du gamle mor", "Den dag kjem aldri", "Storegut", "Ved Rudarne", "Tyteberet" og "Ferdaminne". Together with Ivar Aasen and Arne Garborg, Vinje contributed to develop "nynorsk" to become an approved written language. In retrospect he is regarded the first modern Norwegian journalist, and in 1858-1870 he published his own free and independent magazine "Dølen" (the Villager). Vinjestoga still has a lot of the original interior from Aasmund and his family's time, and even original copies of his magazine "Dølen". Vinjestoga is open in the summer season. For off-season group guiding, contact West Telemark Museum.
