Experience a musical meeting between Norwegian Romanticism and a modern sound world as the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra presents works by Johan Svendsen and composer-in-residence Anna Thorvaldsdottir.
The evening opens with Johan Svendsen’s Symphony No. 2, a work that demonstrates the composer’s strong sense of melody, orchestral colour and musical drama. The symphony combines the warmth and expressive power of the Romantic era with a rich and nuanced orchestral language, encompassing both lyrical passages and more powerful climaxes.
Anna Thorvaldsdottir’s METAXIS follows. As composer-in-residence with the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, Thorvaldsdottir is an important part of the orchestra’s artistic profile, and METAXIS offers an opportunity to experience her distinctive musical world. The work explores sound, movement and tension, allowing the many instruments of the orchestra to create a vivid and constantly shifting soundscape.
The concert brings together two different approaches to orchestral music – from Svendsen’s Romantic melodies and dramatic expression to Thorvaldsdottir’s contemporary exploration of sound and texture. METAXIS receives its Norwegian premiere.
Ingar Bergby and Rui Marques conduct the evening’s programme.
