Gammel Erik cheese factory started as a trial project in Carlos Helguera’s kitchen in 2000 with 12 cheese moulds and a homemade cheese press. It proved so successful that Carlos opened a cheese factory in the former community centre in Namsskogan. Gammel Erik is situated by the E6 highway in the centre of Namsskogan. Cheese from Gammel Erik won Super Gold during the Cheese WC 2018 and is therefore one of the 76 best cheeses in the world (among 3500 cheeses). Gammel Erik also won the award for Best Dairy Product during Trøndersk Matfestival 2018.
