Utstein Monastery is Norway’s only preserved medieval monastery. It lies in beautiful surroundings on the island of Mosterøy. Here, King Harald Fairhair once had a farm. In the Middle Ages, it was a monastery, and in the 1700s, it became the farm of the local magistrate. It was run as af farm until it became a museum in the 1930s.

At Utstein Monastery, you will be received by smiling guides dressed up in medieval costumes who proudly presents their newly-built garden with beautiful roses, ornamental bushes and herbs. Come and experience the silence and magic of this very special place!
