Via Ferrata Kyrkjeveggen
Via Ferrata Kyrkjeveggen is perhaps one of Norway's toughest? The route is about 900 metres long, and you'll be rewarded with beautiful views of the Åkrafjord on the climb.
Via Ferrata Kyrkjeveggen, located in Fjæra in Åkrafjorden, is one of Norway's toughest Via Ferrata trails. The trail is designed for rock climbing wherever possible. Steps have been added to the most demanding sections so that as many people as possible can walk the trail. The climb from the entrance at 50 metres above sea level to the summit shelf at 550 metres above sea level is approximately 900 metres. Once you've finished climbing, you can return to the starting point at Åkrafjorden Nature on a marked trail. If you want a longer hike, you can go to Fjæratoppen at 713 metres above sea level, from where you can see all of Langfoss on the opposite side of the fjord.

How long does the route take?
The route takes between 5-7 hours when climbed with a guide. This includes breaks.
When can I climb via ferrata Kyrkjeveggen during the year?
Via ferrata Kyrkjeveggen is open for climbing from approx. 1 April to 1 November, although weather conditions may affect this.
What should I wear/take with me when climbing via ferrata?
You should bring a packed lunch, 1.5 litres of drink (preferably more on hot days), windproof jacket, long trousers, buff/hat, trainers with a rubberised sole and good grip and a rucksack weighing no more than 5 kg.
You don't need to have previous experience to join the guided tour. You should also not be afraid of heights when climbing this route. If you're climbing the route on your own, you must have climbing experience.
Where is the meeting point for the climb?
The meeting point is Åkrafjorden Nature B&B, where you will be given equipment, an introduction and a safety briefing.
Climb without a guide
It is recommended to climb this route with a guide, but experienced Via Ferrata climbers can go on their own. Remember that you must register with Åkrafjorden Nature B&B and pay the climbing fee if you climb on your own. All traffic is at your own risk, and a self-declaration form with contact information must be completed. If you climb on your own, remember that it is a safety requirement that you have Via Ferrata slings with fall protection (shock absorber) or a rope sling to climb Via Ferrata Kyrkjeveggen. If you lack equipment such as a helmet or slings, they can be hired from Åkrafjorden Nature.
