Concerten in Noorwegen

Families Welcome Dance and movement are universal languages that transcend age, background, and experience. Carte Blanche therefore invites the whole family to a specially adapted performance of Insight by Heine Avdal and Yukiko Shinozaki. The lights will be slightly brighter, and the sound a little softer, creating an experience tailored for both the young and the young at heart. Over the years, Carte Blanche's family-friendly performances have received warm feedback from audiences. We warmly welcome children's reactions to what happens on stage, and there's room to move around – or step in and out if needed.Insight How can the body speak of the ways we navigate life together? We live in a world pulled at the seams – marked by conflict, contradiction, and chaos. Every step forward carries resistance. Every breath is a negotiation, with a hope for the future. In Insight, Heine Avdal and Yukiko Shinozaki explore the shifting relation between the individual and the collective. The work draws on the metaphor of string figures – fragile patterns spun between hands – to ask how we open and close ourselves to others, and how each act shapes the whole. The community in Insight is fragile, flexible, and constantly shifting. The dancers move within a system that never stands still, where attention, rhythm, and relation must be renegotiated in the moment. What emerges is togetherness as practice – always in motion, never final. Just as in the game of string figures where a loop of thread is passed from hand to hand, the result is dependent on balance and attention. Pull too hard and the figure breaks; hold too loosely and it unravels. Each gesture alters the whole, just as each decision in a community shifts the collective. The choreographers call this search moving as a democratic body – a practice where each individual matters through the way they act in relation to the whole. How can we move without breaking each other? About Heine Avdal & Yukiko Shinozaki Heine Avdal and Yukiko Shinozaki are based in Brussels and Oslo. Since beginning their collaboration in 1996 and later co-founding the company fieldworks, they have created more than 25 performances presented in over 30 countries. Together they explore performativity as a porous and shifting interplay of movement, sound, image and technology. Drawing from a wide range of disciplines, their work creates layered performances where dance becomes an expanded field of inquiry. With sensitivity to both the organic and the artificial, they blur boundaries – crafting spaces where new meanings can emerge, quietly or unexpectedly. At the heart of their work lies a desire to reimagine the body's relationship to its surroundings, and to invite audiences into this ongoing act of discovery. In 2025, they received the Hedda Award for until, which premiered at Dansens Hus in Oslo.

    Closing concert: Grieg & Vaular
    Bergen
    09.06.2026 - 10.06.2026

    Closing concert: Grieg & Vaular

Bergen legends in Grieghallen. One of Norway’s most distinctive voices in contemporary hip-hop, Lars Vaular, captures the present with both vulnerability and precision in his writing. Since his solo debut nearly twenty years ago, his poetic universe helped define a whole era in Norwegian music – while continually moving beyond it. Lars Vaular is not only a rapper. He is a cultural presence in his own right. Now he takes on his largest performance with a symphony orchestra to date. The programme spans music from across his career, alongside something entirely new. Kjetil Møster and Ole Morten Vågan have arranged the music for the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. – They take care of the things that matter to me. It’s a blessing to play with a full band and the orchestra. The stories in the lyrics come through clearly, and at times it feels as if we’re creating small theatre scenes on stage, says Vaular. Just like Vaular, Edvard Grieg combined artistic virtuosity with broad appeal. In his own era, he was the world’s best-selling recording artist. He composed his Piano Concerto in A minor at the age of 25, and the work became his major international breakthrough. This year’s soloist in the concerto is Yulianna Avdeeva, a pianist celebrated for her passion, technical command and striking spontaneity. The finale of the 2026 Festival brings together this year’s festival musicians in the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, led by Bjarni Frímann Bjarnason, Artistic Director of the BIT20 Ensemble. Bjarnason has conducted Björk’s world tour, collaborated with Ólafur Arnalds, and is known for his boundless creativity. – Grieg created something in his time, and I create something in my era. Hopefully it will inspire someone else in the future, says Lars Vaular. Top image: Edvard Grieg (photo: Axel Leverin) og Lars Vaular (photo: Shawn Arvind)

    Mari Boine

A powerful voice from Sápmi. Mari Boine is a cultural icon. Ever since the albums Jaskatvuođa maŋŋá in 1985 and Gula Gula in 1989, she has been an important voice for Sámi culture. The songs in her native language have resonated internationally, and Boine has experimented with genre-blending and various artist collaborations – such as with Peter Gabriel, and with Jan Garbarek – throughout her career. – My songs describe the pain of oppression and the struggle to reclaim self-respect, but I also sing about the joy of growing up within a culture that has such a close bond with nature, says Boine. In recent years, Boine has been rediscovered by new audiences following her participation in the Norwegian TV show Hver gang vi møtes, where she interpreted songs by Norwegian musicians in Vamp, Highasakite and Matoma with her powerful voice and strong stage presence. The newspaper VG wrote: ‘Mari Boine is one of our leading musical alchemists, with enviable control.’ On the 2024 album Alva, Boine confronted her strict, religious upbringing. Critics expressed that the tone and message seemed closer to the well-known songs from the beginning of her career. In Håkonshallen during the Bergen International Festival, the trio will perform from Mari Boine’s extensive catalogue. Image: Mari Boine. Photo: Per Heimly

An evening for piano lovers. Pianist and composer Christian Grøvlen was born and raised at Kronstad, Bergen, and already has a long and eventful concert career. In recent years, he has served as director of the Composer's Homes at KODE. Even though he's surrounded by the legacy of Grieg, Bull, and Sæverud, Grøvlen has also brought lesser-known voices from Norway's cultural heritage into the spotlight. For this evening in Håkonshallen, Grøvlen has selected four composers and works that hold deep personal meaning for him: Weber, with his romantic and forward-looking Sonata No. 2; and Chopin, with a work written in ardent admiration of Weber’s music. The program also features Agathe Backer Grøndahl’s mystical I blaafjellet. Grøndahl’s music tends toward late Romanticism and Impressionism, with hints of folk music influenced by Bartók. Grøvlen has a special affection for Backer Grøndahl’s music and has played a key role in bringing her work out into the world. The final piece of the evening is a passionate and tempestuous work: Sergei Rachmaninov's Piano Sonata No. 2.

One last time. 'When I listen to a string quartet, it feels as if I am eavesdropping on a conversation between four intelligent people,' wrote Goethe in 1829. In Håkonshallen, one of the most legendary quartets of our time takes the stage. Formed in 1981 by siblings Lukas, Veronika, Clemens and Angelika Hagen, the quartet quickly established itself at the very highest international level. In a shifting world full of turmoil and uncertainty, the Hagen Quartet has been a constant presence. They have, in a way, always been here – through cold and hot wars, the fall of the Soviet Union, the arrival of the internet, four popes and a pandemic. They are now on their farewell tour, and in Bergen you have an exclusive opportunity to experience the quartet one last time. On this evening they perform some of the true treasures of the quartet repertoire, works that have stood the test of time: Beethoven’s Quartet No. 16, Haydn’s Quartet No. 54, and Schubert’s Quartet No. 14. CALL ME AL – EN HYLLEST TIL AL JARREAU

Here is a smooth and accurate English translation, with the currency/formatting style you prefer and without any introductory text: Al Jarreau was the voice that could do it all – rhythm, jazz, pop, funk and pure magic. When he passed away in 2017, five of Western Norway’s most accomplished musicians came together to do the only right thing: bring his music back to life on stage. The result was Call Me Al – a band that delivers Jarreau at his most playful, virtuosic and funky. – Remember to reserve a table for the best experience Vocalist Gisle Alsaker has spent years studying Jarreau’s iconic vocal acrobatics – and delivers interpretations that both impress and move. He is joined by a group of top musicians from the jazz, pop and rock scenes on the west coast; a band that truly knows this music. This is a rare chance to experience some of the warmest, grooviest and most musical energy to ever take the stage at Madam Felle. Pappasaft + supp: FORK || Hulen CC: NOK 300 / NOK 370 ID: 18 Pappasaft After four long years, Rockefeller-featured Pappasaft return to Bergen and Hulen. In the meantime, the gla’core trio have released the well-received full-length Endelig Elendig, the equally well-received EP True Norwegian Gla’core, and played a number of sold-out concerts across the country. This includes two shows at Grünerløkka’s grand venue, Parkteatret, both sold out well in advance. 2026 is Safta’s year: studio sessions are flying by, and new music is being captured as you read this. This will see the light of day during the spring. There will be more concerts west of Sweden, and not least the spectacle that will take place on 15 May at one of Norwegian music’s holiest grails – Rockefeller. Loud, fast and melodic, Pappasaft have played their way into ears and hearts across the length of the rugged, weather-beaten country through hundreds of relentless concerts. Inclusive and energetic shows filled with songs ranging from the intimate and vulnerable to the angry and political. The music has settled into hearts, minds and ink on the skin of Norwegian rock fans to an ever-growing extent. You are warmly welcome to Hulen on 20 February. FORK The ur-punk trio Fork has been described as “Norway’s answer to Fugazi” by NRK’s Ruben Gran and took part in Urørt 2007, but narrowly missed out on the win to Ida Maria. The band consists of brothers Magnus and Knut-Oscar Nymo (Oslo Ess / Slekta) and Kim Trøbråten – all from Rakkestad. They have played together since the age of 10; at that point it is hard not to become a little tight and a little original, even though you can hear traces of the long tradition of early emo, anarcho-punk and melodic hardcore from England, the USA and not least Sweden. Since 2004 they have released three albums and toured several times across Europe, and have helped build a strong DIY scene in both inner and outer Østfold. The album Marka is their first in a full 13 years and is packed with furious melodies and lyrics right on the edge of how poetic punk is allowed to be. Like their previous releases, Marka is self-financed, and Fork have never made use of any Norwegian funding schemes. Fork themselves say they play music for people with few, but strong feelings.

    Truckfighters

With roots in Örebro, Sweden, Truckfighters have been carving their own paths through fuzz-drenched desert rock since 2001. What began with early EPs and the debut album Gravity X in 2005 has evolved into a legacy defined by heavy riffs, expansive grooves and psychedelic “fuzz monster” energy – qualities that have earned them comparisons with the great names of desert and stoner rock. Despite several line-up changes over the years – particularly behind the drum kit – the founding duo Oskar “Ozo” Cedermalm (bass/vocals) and Niklas “Dango” Källgren (guitar) have always remained the core of the band. Over time, they have built a reputation as one of Europe’s leading heavy psych rock bands, with five studio albums and countless live shows to their name. A Truckfighters concert is a live experience with energy and atmosphere in a class of its own – exactly as it should be. Quite simply, nothing compares to Truckfighters live. After the album V in 2016, a long time passed before new material saw the light of day – but now Truckfighters are back at full force. The band has confirmed that a brand new full-length album, titled Masterflow, will be released in spring 2026. As the band themselves put it: “Not a whisper – more like a scream.” The new songs stay true to Truckfighters’ signature fuzz-heavy, riff-based sound, while also reflecting experience, growth and renewed creative energy. Masterflow marks the next chapter in Truckfighters’ journey: instantly recognisable to dedicated fans, yet fresh and fearless – a new dose of desert rock for a new era.

Ståle Kleiberg i samtale om Debussys musikk og poesi

About the conversation (The conversation will be held in Norwegian) In this conversation with composer and professor emeritus Ståle Kleiberg, we take a closer look at how French Symbolist poetry can serve as a gateway to understanding Debussy’s music. Debussy set to music many poems by the leading poets of his time, such as Stéphane Mallarmé, Charles Baudelaire, and Paul Verlaine. In these songs, poetry and music are closely intertwined. Unlike many of his contemporaries, Debussy does not use music to describe the literal content of the poetry. The aim is not to realistically “depict,” for example, a forest. In Debussy’s own words, the mysteries of the forest cannot be revealed by measuring the height of the trees. Rather than portraying the forest itself in his music, Debussy uses musical symbols to convey a person’s response to being in the forest. With this, he ushered in a new chapter in music history. Which techniques does Debussy use to achieve this? What are these musical symbols? These questions will be the focus of a conversation that takes us inside Debussy’s music and the poetry he set to music. The conversation can be combined with a concert of Debussy’s songs immediately following the talk. Find tickets and more information in our calendar. About the participants Ståle Kleiberg is a central Norwegian composer with significant international recognition. His music is frequently performed both in Norway and abroad, and most of his works have been commissioned by leading orchestras, ensembles, and performers. Numerous recordings of Kleiberg’s music have been released, receiving outstanding international reviews and several Grammy nominations. Kleiberg’s music is characterized by a personal and distinctive form of extended tonality and by a meticulous approach to timbral detail. This is particularly evident in his orchestral output, which includes three symphonies, symphonic poems, and a number of solo concertos. Kleiberg is professor emeritus of musicology and composition at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim. Karina Valnumsen Hansen is Senior Curator of Music at the Kode Art Museums and Composer Homes. She holds a PhD in musicology from NTNU, focusing on politics and declamation practices in W. A. Mozart’s German operas. After completing her doctorate, she served as an associate professor in musicology at NTNU before beginning a postdoctoral position at the University of Heidelberg, Germany. Her research fields include music and politics, Mozart’s biography and music, 18th-century opera, Norwegian vocal music of the 19th century, and musical declamation practices in the 18th and 19th centuries. Avoid Aas - Antiquarian

Unnveig Aas has sung her way into the hearts of many with her striking voice and distinctive musical expression in recent years. With almost four albums released, one of which (Young Heart, 2019) was nominated for Spellemann in the Country category, we can say that Unnveig is well established as a musician in this country! Her latest EP "Amused By A Muse" came out in the fall of 2025, and has received praise and a list spot on NRK P3 Musikk. More music is coming in 2026! Aas has played concerts all over Norway, as well as Germany, Sweden and Denmark. She is known for making the audience dance, cry and laugh. The music is full of contrasts. It is quiet and contained, but also at times catchy and danceable. With inspiration from country, pop, rock and folk, she experiments with open guitar tunings and synths and creates a sound that stands out in the Norwegian music scene. Aas is also an author and has published two poetry collections. Her lyrics are poetic and painful and are performed in a heartfelt way. About "Amused By A Muse": "Bittersweet, painful and stunningly beautiful" - Kristin Winsents, Music Director NRK P3 Music "Among the best Norwegian releases of the year" - Popklikk.no "(...) songs that will probably both comfort you and tear you to shreds" - GAFFA Norway

    Shostakovich & Bartók

Solo Antics Conductor: Tabita Berglund Violin: Baiba Skride Program Anna Thorvaldsdottir: Archora | Norwegian Premiere Dmitri Shostakovich: Violin Concerto No. 2 Béla Bartók: Concerto for Orchestra About the Concert The evening's duo, our own Tabita Berglund and Latvian Baiba Skride, are both highly sought after on the international concert stage, and this evening the program includes Shostakovich's virtuoso low-key Violin Concerto No. 2 and Bartok's somewhat iconic Concerto for Orchestra. We open with Anna Thorvallsdottir's Archora from 2022, a work based on the beginning of the world, primordial energy, and a parallel omnipresent force – a world that is both familiar and foreign, static and in motion, nowhere and everywhere at the same time. Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto was written for the legendary David Oistrakh and “belonged to him”, and for a long time few others dared to try their hand. But now a new generation has once again taken up this contemplative concerto, and Skride “makes it sound fresh and new”, according to Gramophone. According to the composer himself, a concerto for orchestra is a gradual transition from the serious to the life-affirming. Bartók’s use of Hungarian folklore is also a foundation in this piece, where Bartók unites the concerto with the symphony and the orchestra’s various instrument groups are highlighted and allowed to shine in a concerto for, precisely, the orchestra.

    Herborg Kråkevik & TrondheimSolistene

We walk together in Herborg's songbook When Kråkevik's songbook was published in 2000, with her warm and distinctive interpretations of, among others, "Den fyrste song", "Til ungdommen" and "Blåmann", the album became an immediate sensation. Kråkevik was described as Norway's number one songbird and was named Spellemann of the Year – with the justification: "Never has the Norwegian song treasure been interpreted in a finer way." The recordings, made in collaboration with the TrondheimSolistene, sold an impressive 250,000 copies and placed the album among the best-selling Norwegian releases of all time. Throughout her career, Herborg Kråkevik has shown rare versatility as a singer, actress and lyricist, and has consolidated her position as one of the country's foremost cultural communicators. In 2026, she is once again highly relevant – both in the popular TV series Hver gang vi møtes on TV2 in January, and with a new album and book in March. The new album is a collection of several Norwegian songs, and the book is a collaboration with the National Museum where songs and paintings are put together under the title "Vi vandrar saman". After three sold-out anniversary concerts in 2025, the Kråkevik and Trondheim Soloists will now embark on a grand tour in the spring of 2026. The ensemble is in the process of renewing the repertoire from the Songboka, and the audience can look forward to both immortal classics and brand new songs from the upcoming album. Here, beloved songs await in a new guise - performed by world-class musicians. Join us for an unforgettable concert experience! They slide across the floor on the plinth. Come closer and listen with your whole body; feel the wind in their movements, the sound from their dancing feet. In Soft Ice, choreographer Janne Eraker focuses on a very specific part of tap dance's vocabulary, namely slides, scrapes and drags, and the audience is invited to experience the dance form in a new way. Together with a guitarist, the three dancers create a dynamic soundscape from whisper-quiet to intense swinging rhythms. The performance can therefore also be enjoyed as a concert - with your eyes closed. Soft Ice draws your eyes and ears close to the dance floor, allowing you to experience the dancing forms that arise on the floor, in the room and in the bodies, before they disappear, like a beautiful, fleeting loop. Twin Serpent (release party) soup: Healthy Choices + Ben Atkins

TRUE NORWEGIAN BLACKGRASS album release party! Svartlamon's own Twin Serpent are releasing their long-awaited second album. To mark the occasion, they are bringing the eminent Healthy Choices and Ben Atkins to the Lobby for an evening of cheers and shouts and riding the night away until the sky is clear! Wednesday, May 13th! Doors open 8:00 PM - concert starts 9:00 PM - age limit 18 years. Twin Serpent: With a country approach and the energy of punk, this noisy but sweet outsider band manages to blur genre boundaries. Inspired by bands like The Taxpayers and 16 Horsepower, the quartet delivers songs about love, betrayal, defiance and resistance. The dynamics vary from acoustic to amp wall with multi-part vocal harmonies, quirky guitar solos and distorted banjo. With members from Barren Womb, Probleman and Lucky Malice, this crust country band uses lo-fi black metal aesthetics without having to bathe in blood. Add a touch of folk music and the listener is taken on a journey away from the healthy polished and studied everyday life. With album two on the way and a bunch of sold-out concerts in their hometown of Trondheim, the band is delighted to spread their cosmic gospel to the people! Twin Serpent drives hard with an “in your face attitude” and is just as suitable for a barn party as a punk festival. Twin Serpent is: Timo Silvola - Vocals, banjo, acoustic guitar Hanna Fauske - Vocals, bass Tony Gonzalez - Guitar, choir Viktor Kristensen - percussion, drums Healthy Choices: With bangles and a rubber duck, Healthy Choices floats contentedly around in the wave pool of post-punk. Inspired by bands like Pissed Jeans, Viagra Boys, and Single Mothers, they talk about adult themes interspersed with some childishness to alleviate the worst seriousness. Native Texan Ben Atkins (The Atkins Tent Revival) has spent years wowing audiences with his nuclear vocals and his unique story-telling Americana-fusion. Since relocating to Trondheim (2022) he has firmly established himself in the local scene by preaching the Gospel of Good Times.

Spidergawd – release concert | Byscenen Trondheim 24 January

Spidergawd will return with a new album in September 2025! Spidergawd invites you to a release concert at Byscenen on Saturday, January 24. After a huge set at Pstereo in August, the band has solid momentum, and is bringing their heavy, melodic expression back to their home turf. After the releases I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, number 8 is coming. What the album will be called remains to be seen. Spidergawd has moved across genre boundaries within rock in the last 10 years, and the sound has become more and more unmistakably like itself. The NWOBHM references still hold a tight grip, and of course with great possibilities for new turns into other familiar territories. Known for their live performances, the band is ready to look you straight in the eye in the fall of 2025 and spring of 2026 when they play from Norway to Sweden and down Europe.

    Team Hegdal

The musical beacon Team Hegdal has, since its inception in 2009, distinguished itself as one of Norway's most original and innovative jazz bands. They have five critically acclaimed albums behind them (Spellemannswinner for "Vol 3") and have toured around Norway, Europe, Japan and Canada. Eivind Lønning: trumpet Eirik Hegdal: saxophone/clarinet Ole Morten Vågan: double bass Gard Nilssen: drums This evening, Team Hegdal presents completely new music — a continuation of their unmistakable sound: playful and virtuosic, melodic, genre-broad, telepathic interaction, combined with a sometimes absurd humor. The ensemble's tone poet, Buddy Prize winner in 2025, Eirik Hegdal, has a long experience as artistic director of the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, where he has led projects with names such as Joshua Redman, Dave Holland, Maria Kannegaard, Pat Metheny and Bill Frisell. The last two in close collaboration with the orchestra's subsequent leader, Ole Morten Vågan. On the occasion of Eirik Hegdal's "recent" tour, he received a gift from the ensemble's highly gifted comp - written on the cardboard cover of a hotel key card: "You're going on tour!" - 'Do you remember what it was like as a child to go out in the rain in late summer? When the world was washed and clean, and the smells were extra strong. Without rain gear - you felt the big raindrops hit your skin, and the rainwater felt warm against your skin. An experience of the world becoming new. This is how I experience Team Hegdal this evening. Music teaches you to see the world anew, it gives you sensory experiences that are as strong as if you were experiencing them for the first time.' (Johan Hauknes - Salt peanuts)

The Hanseatics are coming! Balkan in the Bergen style! Fliflet/Hamre! Ole Hamre is on a roll Gabriel Fliflet owns an accordion, and likes to use it This is cheerful Balkan music, pure poetry and playfulness on drums, singing, accordion, stepping, pots and melodica! For years, this duo has provided Western Norway and Norway with their mix of Balkan music, Ivar Åsen, happy madness and of course a little strengthening singing: All this we love! The veterans in the city from the west, have several critically acclaimed albums under their belt and are currently celebrating their 35th anniversary! Watch out for the scolding! To warm us up to this Bergen bulldozer-ball-stable bastion; BalkanFest presents a real treat; Frits Klatte Band! Bård Li-PVC Espen Høyem-PVC Despite having existed for less than a year, the Fritz Klatte Band has already made a splash within the European traditional music community. At this summer's edition of the Landskappleiken, they were the first in world history to perform with instruments made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) – colloquially known as plastic. Hardanger fiddle players dressed in traditional Norwegian costumes and Langeleik players in a hurry were almost blown away by the Fritz Klatte Band's vital performance. And the judges in the Open class awarded the guys no less than 25 points. Since then, things have been going well for the band. They have performed both east and west of Trondheim, even at a birthday party. The band took its name to honor one of the great pioneers in plastic chemistry. Fritz Klatte (1880-1934) is considered by many to be one of the greats in the history of plastics. Unfortunately, he passed away too early to experience the success that plastic would become. But at Balkanfest, the Fritz Klatte Band will breathe life into his memory – literally.

Summer Festival 2026 @ Happy Rock Shows

Welcome to Happy Rock Show's annual summer festival. As usual, there will be opportunities for grilling from our large grill, so feel free to bring your own barbecue food when you come. The grill is ready for grilling from 6 pm. We have 3 artists/bands on our outdoor stage. We are incredibly proud to present our line-up for this year's summer festival. We have never had two headliners before but it is happening this year. Finally we get a visit from our big pop and rock favorite ØYVIND HOLM. In our opinion, a world-class song writer, right up there with The Beatles. You don't want to miss this. ØYVIND HOLM has been an active and extremely productive songwriter in Norwegian music for what seems like a lifetime. He started Dipsomaniacs in 1997, and many also know him as a songwriter and vocalist in the Americana band Sugarfoot, who toured with The Waterboys in England and Sweden last year. In parallel, Holm has released a number of albums under his own name. Most recently, in December, the critically acclaimed Blue Is the Color of My Soul Light was released – his fourth solo release since 2020. Here he delivers energetic and melodic pop with roots in 60s psychedelia and 90s lo-fi. The press has praised Paradox of Laughing as "fresh and strong pop music that stands on the shoulders of a rich musical history" (Popklikk), and referred to Holm as "a true pop artist" (Adresseavisen). RONNY MOB: After just over a year since they last visited us, the number 1 boss punk in Norway is ready for us again! This time it will be at our annual summer festival, and with a new album in the bag, this will be an experience you don't want to miss. From no man's land, 36-year-old tinsmith Ronny Pøbel suddenly appeared in Oslo's rock scene in 2005. Ronny Pøbel immediately made a name for himself and attracted attention by naming himself "Society Hater No. 1", with the slogan and motto "Føkk Døkk". With the help of his good friends in the Backstreet Girls, Ronny was given the opportunity to realize his dream of starting his own band where he could roar, scream and vent all his frustration and anger. After that, things have moved quickly. Lyrics and melodies that Ronny had been laying around for years were finished with help from Petter Baarli and Dan Thunderbird. After much ups and downs, with x number of dissolutions and expulsions of band members, this is the new band in RONNY PØBEL. Vocals. Ronny Pøbel Bass.Tore fuck Guitar.Dennis Hagen Drums. Svenn Olav Skulbørstad STARFLWR: Starflwr refines the cross between 90s indie rock and classic Americana. The result is an airy and atmospheric soundscape, spiced with enough nerve that it never gets too pretty. Focusing on strong melodic lines and an organic flow, the band creates music that feels both intimate and spacious. It's the sound of modern melancholy wrapped in a timeless rock expression. Genre: Atmospheric Indie Rock Vibe: Dreamy and melody-driven. Core sound: Guitar, keyboards, airy vocals and a down-to-earth rhythm section.

    Jim Ghedi (UK) at Folken

Grottene Doors 19:30 Concert starts 20:00 Age limit 18 or with guardian Event on Facebook The acclaimed and critically praised British folk musician Jim Ghedi brings a full band to Grottene! "Tim-Buckley-meets-Richard-Thompson-at-the-end-of-the-universe vibe. Colossal." – MOJO "Ghedi's combination of intensity and sublimity recalls Lankum to some extent, yet where that band's doom descends like a thick black cloud, there is something more earthy in Ghedi's work – the horrific, terrifying beauty of a collapsing planet, turned into sound." – The Quietus "Yorkshire folksmith's ruminative, storm-tossed masterwork." – 9/10 Uncut Jim Ghedi hails from Sheffield, South Yorkshire, and although he clearly knows folk music history well, he stands out as a potential torchbearer for a new generation of performers who both respect tradition and dare to experiment. His album Wasteland, released in March 2025, received widespread acclaim and was described as a bold statement, among the most complete, far-reaching, and ambitious works in the folk genre, challenging the boundaries of what folk music can be. A highlight in Jim's band is Owen Spafford, a highly respected fiddle player and composer from Yorkshire, emphasising their progressive approach to pushing boundaries and creating cross-genre expressions. On his latest album, Jim Ghedi has created something grand: intense, meditative, bold, at times apocalyptic, and remarkably expansive. Wasteland is an album unafraid to explore the darkness of the modern world, embracing its strange, sharp, and unsettling moments. It captures the grandeur of life from the micro to the macro, moving closely through the personal while reflecting broader social issues. "Wasteland is about the idea of a place once familiar, now decayed and unrecognisable," says Ghedi. "It explores the process of watching someone’s environment collapse." Within this, much occurs: "It also deals with death, personal loss, grief, mental health, and how nature offers comfort and meaning in the face of loss, with these worlds interweaving." Yet the album is not solely about decay. It is also a bold statement, some of Ghedi’s richest and most ambitious work to date. The opening track Old Stones sets the tone, unfolding with finely tuned instrumentation and Ghedi's gentle vocals, before exploding as his voice cries out amid a swirling storm like a man lost at sea. It perfectly encapsulates an album that, however dark and dramatic, is also imbued with beauty, tenderness, and strong emotional power. "The record is raw and vulnerable, with a lot of emotion," says Ghedi. Ghedi has always been an artist encompassing folk in its purest form, yet he often pushes the genre’s boundaries, never more clearly than here. As in his previous albums – A Hymn for Ancient Land (2018) and In the Furrows of Common Place (2021) – Ghedi uses traditional folk songs as a foundation to explore contemporary themes through modern, experimental music. The melancholic What Will Become of England draws on a recording of English singer Harry Cox found in the Alan Lomax archive; Newtondale and Blue John are hornpipe melodies written by Sheffield fiddler Dave Shepherd from the LP English Fiddle Players; elsewhere are versions of songs from Hull and Liverpool, while Trafford Road Ballad is by Ewan MacColl, about a worker from Salford refusing to go to war. "With the traditional material on this album, I sought songs with content that resonated with me," says Ghedi. "But also rooted in Northern England." This is a central theme: feelings of loss, decay, and decline are often most visible in working-class communities, which he wanted to incorporate. "There’s a strong working-class narrative and representation in both the traditional and original songs," he explains. Some of the most striking pieces are Ghedi’s own compositions. Wasteland is magnificent: rooted in a crumbling environment – "there’s violence on these hills," he sings mournfully – yet also beautiful and soaring, with strings weaving through his resonant electric guitar. His choice of fuller soundscapes, like electric guitar and big drums, marks a clear shift. "The lyrics needed a more band-driven, loud delivery," he explains. "Using electric guitar opened the soundscape and pushed me vocally, forcing greater use of falsetto and allowing larger arrangements." The album was recorded over two years at Tesla Studios in Sheffield, with David Glover as engineer and producer, and a wide range of contributing musicians: David Grubb (fiddle), Daniel Bridgwood-Hill (fiddle), Neal Heppleston (bass), Joe Danks (drums), Dean Honer from I Monster (synth), Cormac MacDiarmada from Lankum (vocals), Ruth Clinton from Landless (vocals), and Amelia Baker from Cinder Well (vocals). "Everyone involved shaped the album into what it is," says Ghedi. What Ghedi has created is a remarkable space where deeply personal emotions coexist with reflections on environment, place, and society, while historical lines are traced through traditional material. Wasteland is as much a world to enter as it is an album, with Ghedi carving out a distinct musical language to explore this landscape. When he began working on the album, Ghedi felt somewhat lost, detached, and unsettled. "I was very frustrated with England after moving back to Sheffield from Ireland," he says. Yet despite stemming from a difficult period, the album contains glimpses of hope and beauty amid decay. "It was a dark period while writing, but also joyful and uplifting," he reflects. "There was positive energy, and it felt cleansing, with much enthusiasm put into the work. I believe this album comes closest to the sound I’ve long aimed for, and represents me fully." Amid the turbulence, Ghedi has found a musical place he can now call home. jimghedi.com | Bandcamp | Instagram

    Valkyrien Allstars at Folken
    Stavanger
    11.04.2026 - 10.04.2026

    Valkyrien Allstars at Folken

Valkyrien Allstars’ seventh album is out now! "Venter på noen, som venter på noen" ("Waiting for someone, who’s waiting for someone") follows their critically acclaimed 2020 album Slutte & Bynne. Though they won the Spellemann Award in the Folk Song category, their sound veers suspiciously close to pop — with roots in traditional folk music. Teaming up with Swedish folk label Supertraditional, the band delivers nine finely crafted tracks about life and living. This album continues Valkyrien’s signature fusion of tradition and pop — a formula that’s taken them zigzagging across Norway so often, it’s a wonder there are still trees left in the forest. Erik has gotten even better on guitar, Martin has learned banjo, Magnus has fixed his bass, and Tuva has sharpened her pen. Valkyrien Allstars is widely known as one of Norway’s best live bands. Since their 2007 debut, they’ve been trailblazers in arranged folk music — always evolving their sound and pioneering new folk with a truly unique voice. The band consists of Tuva Syvertsen, Magnus Larsen Jr, Erik Sollid, and Martin Langlie (not Checkpoint Martin). Together, they create songs that embody eternal love and mysteries that never resolve. Whether on record or on stage, they deliver energy, intensity, and surprising turns. Enjoy!

The Dire Straits Experience at Stavanger Concert Hall

Featuring Chris White, former member of Dire Straits When Dire Straits took the stage for the final time in 1995, many felt an era was coming to an end. Yet the music – timeless, melodic, and instantly recognisable – continued to live on in the hearts of audiences. With The Dire Straits Experience, this legacy is brought to life once more, with intensity and artistic quality that honours the original. At the centre is saxophonist Chris White, who was part of Dire Straits’ final lineup, surrounded by six internationally acclaimed musicians who have shared the stage with some of today’s greatest artists. Together they perform a repertoire that includes iconic tracks like Sultans of Swing, Money for Nothing, and Private Investigations – compositions that have long achieved classic status in modern rock. The Dire Straits Experience is said to offer the most authentic recreation of the band’s distinctive sound that audiences can experience today. Chris White emphasises that vocalist and guitarist Terence Reis is the only artist who can fully assume the role of Mark Knopfler’s musical heir. Don’t miss this tribute to one of music history’s greatest bands and their legendary songs! Organisers: Stavanger Concert Hall & FKP Scorpio
