Black metal en jazz
Noorwegen is in veel opzichten een land van extremen, dus het is waarschijnlijk geen toeval dat genres als black metal en jazz hier al tientallen jaren succes boeken. Noorwegen is de bakermat van black metal en er bestaat geen betere plek om dit te ervaren dan het Inferno festival, dat elke Pasen in Oslo wordt gehouden. Er zijn ook internationale jazzfestivals in Bergen, Molde, Kongsberg, Haugesund, Oslo, Lillehammer en op nog meer plekken.

VESTLANDS MEET 2026 Espeland Prison Camp Arna Bergen!! This year we’re opening the meet on Thursday, with slightly reduced facilities. There will still be light food and drinks available, and music playing over the speakers. On Friday and Saturday, however, we go all in with live music, a cocktail bar, a BBQ menu, several large shared tents, and vendors who will be exhibiting and selling various items. Nattjazz (Nightjazz) is the longest jazz festival in Northern Europe and is arranged annually in late May / early June in Bergen. Join an engaging and energizing choral celebration in the winter darkness when the Benedictinerne and iKor meet at Spor 5. The choir BENEDICTINERNE from Bergen, together with their own soloists and band, will perform an exciting and delightful mix of songs about life and the many facets of love. Their repertoire consists mostly of well‑known music by both Norwegian and international artists such as Ole Paus, Sigvart Dagsland, The Beatles, ABBA, and Coldplay. With nearly 90 singers and their own band, BENEDICTINERNE has established itself as one of Norway’s largest mixed choirs. The choir is founded and led by conductor Benedicte Sjøvold. iKor is a versatile choir from Stavanger that performs a wide range of genres including pop, rock, folk, classical, and film music. John Gunnar Akerø is the choir’s musical leader and arranges most of their repertoire, giving iKor a unique and tailored musical expression. Jakub Niedziela is the choir’s energetic and skilled conductor.

As an extreme metal festival, Beyond the Gates arose from the ashes of the cult Hole in the Sky festival in 2013. Renowned for curating some of the best lineups in extreme metal has grown into a favorite summer event for heavy music fans all over the globe. The festival will take place for four days across multiple venues, including USF Verftet, Kulturhuset, and the legendary Grieghallen, where many seminal Norwegian black metal albums were recorded in the 90s. Beyond the Gates experience In addition to this massive extreme metal event, Beyond the Gates offers attendees unique and exciting opportunities to explore Norwegian and black metal culture in this historic city! For years, fans have been flocking to Bergen to experience their favorite Norwegian artists in their home environment. Nature and local culture has always been a poignant source of inspiration for the bands emerging from the Bergen scene. Beyond the Gates will make a great effort to give all the traveling fans a unique insight into all aspects of the Norwegian Metal scene and the local culture in general. Månefestivalen (The Moon Festival) is a charming and colorful music festival in the Old Town (Gamlebyen) in Fredrikstad. This summer's greatest running event! Stavanger Marathon is organised by the athletics club GTI Friidrettsklubb. It's one day with several running options in terms of distance and level. With great variation in length and route, the Stavanger Marathon provides a challenge suitable for all! The different options are children's race, 5 kilometres, half marathon and marathon.

Maijazz has contributed to the region with artists such as Jan Garbarek, Pat Metheny Group, Herbie Hancock, E.S.T., Joe Zawinul and Youssou N'dour, to name but a few of those who have visited Stavanger and Maijazz. Maijazz is constantly evolving Maijazz wants to be a driving force in the cultural development of the region. In recent years, the established collaboration with the University of Stavanger has really taken off. The Bjergsted Jazz Ensemble is a cornerstone of the festival. The series ‘Tett på en Helt’ (Close to a Hero, part of the Blå Trå series at Stavanger Jazzforum) has become one of the most popular events among students at the Institute of Music and Dance/UiS. The Potato Festival on Jæren has traditions dating back to 1998 when the trade association in Bryne, with Olav Ausdal at the helm, initiated this festival with a potato theme. Over the years, the Potato Festival has developed into a major festival for the market, trade and a showcase for everything that happens at Jæren in terms of culture and business. Regular features on the Potato Festival programme The Potato Festival has many traditions that have come to stay: The Little Grey Fergie Parade, the swimming duck race, the World Championships in Potato Fork throwing, the tent where they serve the Norwegian dish, komle, and the sale of potatoes in buckets, to name but a few. The tasting includes a welcome beer, a tour of the brewery, and tasting of six additional varieties from our diverse selection. There will, of course, be some storytelling about both beer and 7 Fjell along the way, and the event lasts 2.5-3 hours, depending on the number of questions and participants. The Bergen International Festival coalesces when art forms meet, in encounters between tradition and renewal, reflection and rejoicing, stage and auditorium.
