InderøyAquavit from Inderøy Distillery
116 years after the last bottle was filled at Sundes distillery in 1900, aquavit farmer Svein Berfjord brought the tradition back to Inderøy and today runs Inderøy distillery from Berg Farm in Inderøy. Cask-aged aquavit from Inderøy The monopoly scheme for the production of spirits was abolished in 2005, which opened opportunities for other than just Arcus to make and sell aquavit. Arcus is the company under the Vinmonopolet that had a monopoly on producing alcoholic beverages in Norway. In recent years, the focus on short-travelled, local and traditional food and drink has led to a new flourishing of small-scale aquavit production. Kjersti and Svein Berfjord at Berg Farm in Inderøy focus on farm tourism and have their own country farm store, farm butchery and restaurant. In 2015, they established Inderøy Distilleryt and the farm’s Inderøy caraway is now processed into cask-aged aquavit. They delivered the first bottles to the local Vinmonopol in 2016 – 116 years after the last local aquavit was distilled at Sundnes Brenneri. Inderøy caraway Caraway grown on Berg farm is one of the most important ingredients in the Inderøy aquavit. Svein observed that fruit farmers in the south and west had started making apple spirits and then got the idea to process the caraway he grows on the farm. There are eight / nine growers on Inderøy who produce almost all the caraway in Norway. Most Norwegian aquavit is probably produced with Inderøy caraway. They have been selling the caraway for many years to another large aquavit producer, Arcus. Thus, the idea of building a separate distillery was born. Svein jokingly says that from the time he started distilling in March 2015, he did not drive a car until April 2016. In addition to home-grown caraway, Berfjord has also used local junipers. Star anise, coriander, fennel and other widely used aquavit spices are of course also included. Aged in old sherry casks Aquavit must be matured in casks – a minimum of 12 months in 1000 liter casks and a minimum of 6 months in 500 liter casks. Svein has a 500 liter cask, but he wanted to do more than the minimum requirement. Therefore, the first aquavit Svein produced – Akevitt no 1 – spent 9 months in old sherry casks (Oloroso and PX) which he bought from the Spanish sherry house Fernando de Castilla. After aging in casks, the aquavit is pumped up into a milk tank, then cold-stabilized and filtered before being hoisted into another tank and ready for bottling. The Golden Aquavit (Den Gyldne Akevitt) – the first aquavit where ALL the raw materials are Norwegian Svein started by using only classic spices in the aquavits. But besides Inderøy caraway produced on the farm, the other spices were not particularly short-travelled or local. Anise seeds from Syria, star anise from China, fennel from Germany, coriander from Turkey and citrus from the Mediterranean countries. Thus, the idea of replacing these spices with something that grows locally was born. Since then, he has taken many walks in Inderøy and picked from the rich local flora. He has then distilled everything from dandelion to spruce shoots to give the aquavits a very special and local addition. The Golden Aquavit is a result of this process. It is the first aquavit where all the raw materials are Norwegian. All seeds and herbs have been harvested along the Golden Road. In the aquavit you will find, among other things, Inderøy caraway, watercress, mead, dandelion and spruce shoots. The aquavit is also sweetened with Inderøy honey. After that, it has been stored for 12 months in used Oloroso casks. - Authentic craftsmanship and local flavours from Trøndelag! Welcome to Inderøy Gårdsbryggeri, beautifully situated at Kvam Østre in the heart of Inderøy! Here, Steinar brews beer with passion, tradition, and genuine craftsmanship at its core. Established in 2007, the brewery is one of Norway’s oldest microbreweries. From the original three types of beer, they now produce 28 varieties, as well as cider, mead, and apple juice – all made with local ingredients and a true love for the craft. For Steinar, brewing is a true craft. He emphasises simplicity and uses only basic tools in production. The brewery is located on Kvam Østre, the family farm owned by Steinar’s brother, Per Morten. Here, Steinar grows his own hops in the Humlehage (Hop Garden), while Per Morten malts barley from the farm’s fields. As the only brewery in Norway with both home-grown malt and hops, they use these ingredients 100% in one of their beer varieties. In the farm shop, you can buy their products, gift boxes, and branded beer glasses. The shop is open Monday to Saturday, 12:00–17:00 during the summer season, and by appointment the rest of the year. Inderøy Slakteri is located in idyllic Straumen in Inderøy along The Golden Route. Inderøy Slakteri is an old tradistional family business with over 75 years experience in the meat industry. They are passionate about carrying forward tradistions and have therefor chosen to retain the old company name, even though they no longer operate as a butchery. All their products are developed and carried out from old, traditional recipies. The highest quality and craftmanship is at their no 1 priority. Inderøy sodd - Trønder culinary culture at its best. Their main product is of course Inderøy Sodd; party food consisting of beef and mutton, which are cooked, cleaned and cut into cubes. The fine broth they get from the boiling of the meat , is then salted and spiced with their "secret" spice mix. Additionally, they add their distinctive meatballs, which are made from prime beef and mutton. The meatballs are infused with milk and cream to accentuate the good and round flavor. The recipe is the same today as it was generations ago - and always will be. In addition, they produce cured meat, minced meat products, meatballs, patties and sausages amongst other things. Saga is a creative center with accommodation along the Golden Road in Inderøy, beautifully situated at the beginning of the Borgenfjorden and surrounded by Norway's most stunning cultural landscapes. Every summer, a photography exhibition is held in the gallery, featuring 1-2 artists, preferably debuting with a photographer/artist who has participated in the mentorship program for photographers through Nordphotograhy. InderøySakshaug old church - Medieval Church in Inderøy
- Medieval church along the Golden Road in Inderøy! Sakshaug Old Church is a large church in relation to the other medieval churches in the county. The ship is 21 m long and 12.5 m wide. The choir is 8 m long and 9 m wide. The ship is the oldest part of the church, built in Romanesque style around the mid 1100s. Stone cutter marks show that artisans from Nidaros Cathedral has helped to build the church. One of Scandinavia's oldest Gothic arches can be found here. The interior is from the 1600s. Both the northern and southern portal is richly decorated with masks and heads. The church went out of use in 1871, when a new church was erected nearby. Two years later all the wood was removed from the building, turning the church into an impressive ruin. The parish gave this to Fortidsminneforeningen that same year. A great collective effort by the members of Fortidsminneforeningen and intensive fund raising led to the complete restoration of the church which was consecrated again in 1958. - Fjord culture and boatlife Kjerknesvågen kai- og båtforening (quay and boat club) is located at the beautiful quay facilities at Kjerknesvågen in Inderøy, featuring both a guest pier and the well-known sloop «Jekta Pauline». (historic trading vessel). Member of the Golden Road. Enjoy the fresh sea air and the maritime environment at the pier. Along the shoreline, there are both beaches, swimming areas, and smooth rocky slopes – or you can enjoy the day on the boat, fishing and/or relaxing. In the vicinity, there are several great hiking trails to explore. POP-UP RESTAURANT Inderøy Catering feature a pop-up restaurant at Kjerknesvågen Quay during the summer season. During the summer months facilities include a kiosk, sale of fuel, guest marina, ablution block and some tent / motor home sites. This is the home port of Jekta Pauline (historic trading vessel).

ØYNA - at the top of Inderøy! At Øyna, you can play Putball/Football Golf "at the top of Inderøy" while enjoying a spectacular panoramic view of the Trondheimfjorden and Borgenfjorden. Football golf or putball as it is also called is a fun mix between football and golf and is an activity suitable for children and adults of all ages! The course winds through a beautiful and varied cultural landscape and you are guaranteed a good laugh. The aim of the game is to play the ball from the kickoff into the hole with the fewest kicks possible. The player with the least kicks wins the round. NILS AAS ARTWORKSHOP A creative and vibrant environment! Nils Aas Art Workshop is located in the town centre of idyllic Straumen in Inderøy, just an hour north of Trondheim, and was founded in close cooperation with Nils Aas himself. A few steps away, you will also find the Muustrø Park with sculptures by Nils Aas. Experience Nils Aas (1933 - 2004), one of Norway's most significant sculpture artists. Nils Aas was a man of few words, but conveyed a very powerful message through his art. His art production range from the intimate to the monumental, from the figurative to the abstract, from paper to steel. Nils Aas was an artis of enormous scope and material control. Inside the art workshop, you will therefore encounter a very special collection of art, where Nils Aas himself has put together the exhibition in its peculiar way. Nils Aas emphasises proximity to material and process, and the exhibition stands almost as a textbook in sculpture. By the same token, the exhibition has strong narrative and biographical elements; where it extends from childhood memories reflected through sculpture, to the breakthrough as an artist represented by a miniature statue of King Haakon VII. A massive wood sculpture, titled "BAUTA" or "GIFT" stands in the middle of the room, as a natural centre of gravity in a varied and exciting showroom. CONTEMPORARY ART In addition to the permanent exhibition of Nils Aas, the gallery show cases exciting Norwegian -and international contemporary art. Nils Aas artworkshop houses five exhibitions a year. Program available on their website. THE WORKSHOP Nils Aas Kunstverksted aim to be a creative space. They have therefore a separate workshop deep within the premises, where visitors can work with different materials. If you have children, or you yourself want to try making a clay sculpture, this is a superb place to visit. There is great danger that you will be inspired by Nils Aas and other exhibitors! In addition, the workshop also offer activities for children and youths every other Sunday, and the workshop can be booked with an art leader for a course for adults or other groups. In the summer season and during other holidays, Nils Aas offer an open workshop where you can just turn up. GALLERY SHOP In the museum shop there is an exciting and varied assortment of products. They offer small sculptures by Nils Aas in terracotta, various Nils Aas products that are only available at the shop, art crafts, graphics, posters, postcards, art books, picture books and comics. InderøyHustad church - a medieval church in Inderøy
- Medieval chruch along the Golden Road in Inderøy Hustad Church is a long church in Inderøy Municipality in Nord-Trøndelag dating from 1150. The church, which is built of stone and seats 150, was built around the middle of the 12th century. It is owned by the Society for the Protection of Norwegian Ancient Monuments and is not a parish church. Hustad Church is the smallest of the protected Trøndelag churches owned by the society, and has not been altered or restored since the society took over ownership in 1887. It is therefore uncommonly well preserved both inside and out, with elements from the Middle Ages, 17th, 18th and early 19th centuries. The church is surrounded by “Kjerkeplank”, a cog-joined fence that probably dates from the 17th century. This type of fence is rare in Norway, and is the only preserved fence of its type in Trøndelag. Hustad Church was built in the same period as several other stone churches in Innherred, built in the same style and with the same material (Mære Church, Sakshaug Church, Stiklestad in Verdal, and Alstadhaug Church in Skogn). The archbishops of Nidaros (Trondheim) were behind this major investment to replace old wooden churches in the district with stone churches at that time. Accommodation Jegtvolden offer 58 doubble rooms and 3 suites, totalling 130 beds. All rooms are of good standard, with tiled bathrooms. The hotel also offer family rooms accommodating 4 people. Half the rooms are fjord facing, while the other half face the garden. Some have a veranda, others have a direct access to the park. All rooms have living rooms and are suitable for the disabled. Local Food Good produce is half the job and their kitchen is based on local produce, consequently you may enjoy everything from local culinary traditions to gourmet dinners at Jægtolden. They are also very proud of their wine cellar, offering many fine wines. The ambience is in the walls 150 years ago, the oldest part of the hotel, Lillegården, belonged to the great farm Sundnes. At that time, "celebrities" like Asbjørnsen and Moe, Ole Bull and Asmus Olavson Vinje were frequent guests. Today, Jegtvolden has new guests, but the walls are the same, and this is where the ambience of the hotel is; something Jægtvolden intends to take good care og! Met de trein
De Nordlandsbanen tussen Trondheim en Bodø stopt in Levanger, Verdal en in Steinkjer. Je kunt op station Steinkjer overstappen en de spoorvertakking Trønderbanen naar Røra nemen. Vanuit Røra kun je op voorhand vervoer naar Inderøy regelen.

Met de bus
De snelbussen die dagelijks tussen Trondheim en Namsos rijden, stoppen in Steinkjer en Røra. Bussen vanuit Steinkjer, Levanger en Vanvikan stoppen in Mosvik en Straumen.
Elke dinsdag, woensdag en donderdag in juli (tussen 5 en 28 juli) kun je met de bus langs de bestemmingen van The Golden Road.

Met de auto
Inderøy en The Golden Road liggen vlakbij de Noorse snelweg E6, die het noorden en het zuiden van het land met elkaar verbinden. De omweg duurt maar 8 minuten langer dan de hoofdroute.

Plaatselijk vervoer
Vanaf het treinstation van Røra kun je 'taxi voor bus'-vervoer naar je bestemming regelen. Dat is een taxirit voor de prijs van een gewoon buskaartje. Let er wel op dat je dit 3 uur op voorhand moet boeken.
Inderøya heeft een prachtig landschap en relatief vlak terrein, dus fietsen in de omgeving is echt een aanrader. Neem contact op met het VVV-kantoor van Innherred in Steinkje om een fiets of e-bike te huren.
Met het vliegtuig
Luchthaven Trondheim Værnes ligt op zo'n 50 kilometer ten zuiden van Levanger. Van daaruit zijn er verbindingen met zowel verschillende Noorse steden als met meerdere internationale bestemmingen.
Vanaf het vliegveld kun je over de spoorvertakking Trønderbanen naar Røra en van daaruit de 'taxi voor bus'-dienst boeken.
