Met ruim 1.000 fjorden in heel Noorwegen - waarvan er 10 regelmatig door cruiseschepen aangedaan worden - is het niet gek dat toeristen zich afvragen waar ze naartoe moeten gaan en welke fjorden er te zien zijn.

Met de trein
Er vertrekken dagelijks treinen vanuit Oslo (ongeveer 5,5 uur ) en Trondheim (ongeveer 4 - 5 uur) naar Åndalsnes, het dichtstbijzijnde treinstation.
Van Åndalsnes zijn er het hele jaar door verbindingen met de bus naar Ålesund en Sjøholt en over de Trollstigen bergweg naar Valldal en Geiranger in de zomer.

Met de boot
Tijdens de zomer kun je met Hurtigruten van Bergen naar Geiranger varen. In de winter komt Hurtigruten niet in de Geirangerfjord maar gaat naar Ålesund. Vervolgens moet je een bus nemen van Ålesund naar Geiranger.

Met de bus
Er gaan dagelijks bussen naar het gebied van Oslo, Trondheim en Bergen.

De Geirangerfjord is 3 uur rijden van Ålesund.
