Stranden

Zwemmen, wit zand en waterpret
De meeste kustgebieden zijn gratis toegankelijk. Je kunt dus een dagje aan het strand combineren met activiteiten zoals wandelen, fietsen en vissen. Trek eropuit onder de middernachtzon - er is ruimte genoeg voor iedereen! Geniet van de bruisende stadscultuur, de fjorden, de ongerepte natuur en, wie weet, spot je zelfs een walvis.

Tussen de zandstranden van Lista in het uiterste zuiden van Noorwegen en de duinen in de buurt van Vadsø hoog in het noorden ligt maar liefst 1.800 kilometer.

De op één na langste kustlijn ter wereld heeft talrijke stranden die net zoveel afwisseling te bieden hebben als de rest van Noorwegen. En alsof dat nog niet genoeg is, heb je ook gratis toegang tot de talloze meren die ongeveer drie procent van het vasteland beslaan.

Veel Noorse stranden zijn bekende vakantiebestemmingen waar je zowel gezinnen uit de buurt als surfers uit alle windstreken aantreft. Laat je betoveren door de paradijselijke stranden die je doen geloven dat je de eerste bent die ze toevallig ontdekt.

Mild klimaat

Zowel het klimaat als de temperatuur van het water zijn in de zomer vaak verrassend mild dankzij de Golfstroom die de Noorse kust zelfs tot in het noorden opwarmt. Het hangt er natuurlijk van af waar je aan gewend bent, maar sommige van de prachtige stranden aan de open zee in Noord- of West-Noorwegen zijn niet voor watjes. In Zuid-Noorwegen kan het water in de zomer toch temperaturen van 23 graden bereiken.

Warmer water betekent natuurlijk meer water- en strandactiviteiten! De golven bedwingen op een surfplank of een stand-up paddleboard (SUP) is een prima workout. Geniet daarna van een heerlijke picknick in het zand of op de glooiende, gladde rotsen.

Zwem midden in de stad of ver weg van alles

Voor mensen die een citytrip plannen en ook wat tijd langs het water willen doorbrengen, hebben veel steden hun strandinfrastructuur gemoderniseerd of zelfs gloednieuw aangelegd om de levenskwaliteit in de stad naar een hoger niveau te tillen.

Aan de noordelijke kust is ook veel fauna en flora te zien. Met een beetje geluk spot je zelfs een walvis of zie je een zeearend. Er zijn maar liefst 239.057 eilanden met een kustlijn die gelijk staat aan twee en een halve reis rond de wereld. De ongedwongen sfeer op de Noorse stranden staat dus garant voor de nodige verrassingen.

Waarom de Noorse stranden zo speciaal zijn

Vergeleken met de soms overvolle stranden in andere landen hebben de Noorse stranden vaak minder bezoekers, is het water helderder en is de omgeving zeker niet te druk, zelfs niet in grote steden zoals Oslo, Bergen en Trondheim.

Meer dan zonnebaden

Een dagje aan zee kun je gemakkelijk combineren met andere leuke activiteiten zoals wandelen, fietsen, vissen en skiën. Ja, je leest het goed: in Fjord-Noorwegen kun je van een besneeuwde bergtop afzoeven en dezelfde dag nog in het fjord zwemmen.

De zon gaat nooit onder

Veel reizigers trekken naar Noord-Noorwegen voor de middernachtzon. Tussen mei en augustus kun je midden in de nacht romantisch zwemmen, kajakken of waterskiën op stille wateren of tot in de vroege uurtjes van het zonlicht genieten met een drankje erbij.

Stranden met een blauwe vlag

Het eerste Noorse strand dat het strikte eco-label Blauwe Vlag toegekend kreeg, was Bystranden in de stad Kristiansand. In 2018 heeft Noorwegen maar liefst 17 ’Blauwe Vlag’-stranden, en op tal van andere stranden wordt er hard gewerkt om het label te bemachtigen.

Om het ’Blauwe Vlag’-label te krijgen moet het strand voldoen aan de volgende voorwaarden: een uitstekende waterkwaliteit, een schoon strandgebied, veiligheidsmaatregelen en een strandwacht, toegang voor personen met een fysieke beperking, een goed afval- en recyclageplan, schone toiletten en sanitaire faciliteiten en ook drinkwatervoorzieningen.

Verschillende officiële en niet-officiële nationale campagnes hebben voor een hogere bewustwording gezorgd als het gaat over het afvalvrij houden van de zee en de stranden.

Kamperen langs de kust

Vroeg of laat zullen de frisse lucht en het kalmerende geluid van de golven je laten indommelen. Wil je de nacht op of in de buurt van een strand doorbrengen, dan zijn er behoorlijk wat kindvriendelijke campings, gastvrije hotels en andere accommodatiemogelijkheden aan de Noorse kust.

Ongeacht het Noorse recht om rond te zwerven mag je niet vergeten dat je tent niet dichter dan 150 meter van de dichtstbijzijnde bewoonde blokhut of woning mag staan.
