Skrei - Kabeljauw, ons dagelijks brood
Skrei is de Noorse kabeljauw op z’n best en nog steeds het levensonderhoud van veel vissers in Noord-Noorwegen. Verse en gedroogde skrei is één van de belangrijkste exportproducten van Noorwegen.

Maak een prachtige wandeling op Senja, neem een duik in het meer van Blåisvatnet of geniet gewoon lekker van het indrukwekkende landschap van Andøya. Hier laten we je kennismaken met enkele Noorse hotspots.

Over de weg
Vesterålen is via een snelweg met dubbele baan verbonden met het vasteland en met de E6. De eilanden zijn met elkaar verbonden door middel van bruggen en tunnels.
Noorwegen zet voetgangers en fietsers op de eerste plaats. Voetgangers die een straat over willen steken verwachten dat je langzamer gaat rijden of stopt, en fietsers volgen niet altijd de regels. Houdt rekening met alle weggebruikers als je met de auto op pad gaat.
Elke dag rijden er bussen vanuit de grotere steden in Noord-Noorwegen naar Sortland, de grootste stad van Vesterålen.

Per boot
Elke dag meert de Hurtigruten, The Norwegian Coastal Voyage, op de heen- en terugweg Risøyhamn, Sortland en Stokmarknes in Vesterålen aan.
Ook kun je het hele jaar door met de veerboot tussen Lødingen en Bognes en tussen Melbu en Fiskebøl reizen. In de zomer vaart er bovendien een veerboot tussen Andenes en Gryllefjord.
Wil je naar Lofoten reizen, dan kun je een veerboot in Melbu en Digermulen nemen.

Per vliegtuig
Vanuit de grote steden in Noorwegen vinden regelmatig vluchten plaats naar Harstad/Narvik, het dichtstbijzijnde vliegveld.
Vanaf het vliegveld reis je per bus naar Sortland in Vesterålen. Deze reis duurt ongeveer twee uur.
Vesterålen huisvest daarnaast nog twee vliegvelden: Stokmarkes en Andenes.

Het noorderlicht op de Vesterålen
Bezoek de Vesterålen-eilandengroep en geniet van een breed scala aan winteractiviteiten. Deze regio die net ten noorden van de Lofoten ligt, heeft een cultuur die sterk op de visserij gebaseerd is. Je kunt er allerlei kunst ontdekken en je zit er ook op de eerste rij om het noorderlicht (aurora borealis) te bewonderen.
