Noorwegen heeft een goed aangelegd netwerk met wereldberoemde schitterende spoorlijnen van Kristiansand in het zuiden tot Bodø, net boven de poolcirkel.
Treinen verbinden de grote Noorse steden met elkaar, en de meeste trajecten lopen door de hoofdstad Oslo. Het uitgebreide spoorwegnet van Noorwegen spreidt zich uit vanuit Oslo, dat per trein ook goed verbonden is met de andere Scandinavische hoofdsteden Stockholm en Kopenhagen.
In Noorwegen met de trein reizen levert verbluffende uitzichten op dankzij de vele trajecten door schitterende berglandschappen, landelijke gebieden en langs fjorden en meren. Het bekendste traject is de spoorlijn Oslo - Bergen, ofwel de Bergensbanen. Die is door Lonely Planet uitgeroepen tot één van de mooiste treinreizen ter wereld. Het traject loopt tussen Oslo en Bergen over Hardangervidda, het hoogste bergplateau van Europa. Deze spoorlijn sluit ook aan op de onvergetelijke Flåmspoorweg, één van de meest steile spoorlijnen in de wereld.
De beginnersgids voor de Bergensbanen
De Dovre-spoorlijn, ofwel de Dovrebanen tussen Oslo en Trondheim en z'n aftakking de Rauma-spoorlijn, ofwel de Raumabanen tussen Dombås en Åndalsnes - het bergbeklimmersparadijs van Fjord-Noorwegen - zijn andere bekroonde trajecten die je door het schitterende landschap voeren.
Tickets kopen
Het is vaak het gemakkelijkst (en goedkoopst) om kaartjes te kopen via de reisplanner Entur, waar je reissuggesties kunt vinden voor alle soorten openbaar vervoer in Noorwegen. Het biedt een meer gestroomlijnde boekingservaring en de optie om meerdere reizen op één plaats te boeken.
Je kunt ook tickets kopen op de website of app van elke spoorwegmaatschappij. Tickets zijn ook verkrijgbaar bij automaten op de meeste grote stations, bij ticketbalies en aan boord. Houd er rekening mee dat er een toeslag geldt als je het kaartje in de trein koopt en dat je zitplaats mogelijk al gereserveerd is.
Zoek voor de beste aanbiedingen naar tickets met ‘laag tarief’. Houd er rekening mee dat de goedkoopste tickets meestal niet kunnen worden gerestitueerd, dus als je op zoek bent naar flexibiliteit, overweeg dan om een 'flexticket' te kopen.

SJ Nord heeft geen eigen ticketverkooppunt. Je kunt echter wel kaartjes kopen bij Entur.
Go Ahead Nordic verkoopt tickets op de website en in de app, maar alleen voor de eigen diensten.
Vy verkoopt tickets voor alle diensten in Noorwegen, maar brengt een toeslag in rekening voor trajecten die door andere maatschappijen worden uitgevoerd. Er is geen toeslag op de verkoop van kaartjes voor Bergensbanen en andere Vy-trajecten, maar ze brengen een 'toeslag' in rekening bij kaartjes voor de trajecten Dovrebanen, Raumabanen, Sørlandsbanen, enz.
Entur verkoopt tickets voor alle diensten en brengt geen toeslag in rekening, zodat de prijzen overeenkomen met de prijzen van de vervoerder.
