De regio Østfold in het zuidoosten van Noorwegen loopt langs de oostkant van het Oslofjord tot aan de Zweedse grens. Bezoek charmante stadjes en dorpjes zoals Sarpsborg, waar je prehistorische rotstekeningen kunt bewonderen en de majestueuze Sarpefossen-waterval naar beneden ziet kletteren, en Fredrikstad, één van de best bewaarde vestingsteden van Noord-Europa waar je kunt genieten van de levendige cultuur.
Op slechts een klein eindje rijden van Fredrikstad liggen de idyllische eilandengroep Hvaler en nationaal park Ytre Hvaler. Honderden grotere en kleinere eilanden liggen er letterlijk en figuurlijk op je te wachten om er ontspannen zomerdagen door te brengen op een boot, op het strand of met je vishengel langs de kust.
In het grensstadje Halden kun je Fort Fredriksten bezoeken, gaan kajakken of een cruise maken op het Halden-kanaal.

In de landelijke gemeente Indre Østfold wachten je uitgestrekte gebieden met ongerepte natuur, de beste plekken om te vissen en de meren Lyseren en Øyeren. De langste rivier van Noorwegen, de Glomma, stroomt ook door Østfold.

Kongsten Fort is among Fredrikstad's many unique cultural monuments, and is part of Fredrikstad Fortress - Old Town. From Kongsten there is a fantastic view of the city and the district, and it is an excellent destination for an excursion with a picnic basket within walking distance of the Old Town.

Discover the nature, animal tracks - maybe even the mystery creatures of the Trolls - at Ormtjernhytta (sports cabin) in Halden! The Troll path is a walking trail of 1 kilometer in forested terrain - suitable for the whole family (child carrier recomended for the smallest children). Walking trails to the sports cabin from Ertemoen (3,2 km), Kruseter (2 km), and from the turnpike (0,8km). Parking at the cabin only in the season's opening hours.
