Visit Norway nodigde activiteitenjunkie Charlotte Van Hollebeke van Parijs, foodie Daniel John Lynch van Londen en cultuurliefhebber Gloria Butler van New York uit naar Fjord-Noorwegen en gaf hen de mogelijkheid om voor een paar dagen uit hun grootstedelijke bubbel te ontsnappen. In de rauwe, luchtige en serene natuur ontdekten ze nieuwe perspectieven, kwamen ze weer in contact met hun zintuigen en leerden ze iets nieuws, vooral over zichzelf.
’Om er even tussenuit te zijn en anders naar het leven te kijken, daar heb je een moment voor nodig om je opnieuw op te laden,’ zegt Glo.

Rustgevende omgeving
Fjord-Noorwegen staat bekend om zijn adembenemende landschappen met diepblauwe, door UNESCO beschermde fjorden, stromende watervallen, enorme gletsjers en hoge, besneeuwde bergen. Er zijn maar weinig mensen die dit deel van Noorwegen bezoeken en er niet van onder de indruk zijn.
’Het is ongewoon om al deze types natuur in één landschap te zien te krijgen. Je hebt de sneeuw, de fjorden en ook groene bomen,’ zegt Charlotte.
Langs elk fjord liggen kleine gemeenschappen en dorpjes die ieder hun eigen culinaire specialiteiten hebben. Enkele hoogtepunten zijn de wafels en rømmegrøt (pap van zure room), geweldige vis en zeevruchten en (letterlijk) enkele van de beste kazen en ciders ter wereld.
’Ik was heel geïntrigeerd door hoe de eetcultuur er zou uitzien,’ zegt Daniel die zichzelf als een echte foodie beschouwt.
Een regio om te reflecteren en je terug op te laden
Wanneer de zomerbezoekers weg zijn uit Fjord-Noorwegen verandert de sfeer in de regio compleet. Alles gaat plots veel trager. De kristalheldere fjorden krijgen een laagje mist over zich heen en de bekende bezienswaardigheden doen het weer rustiger aan. Als je de regio in deze tijd van het jaar bezoekt (tussen oktober en mei) zullen de stilte en de mystieke, bijna betoverende sfeer gegarandeerd effect op je hebben. En dat blijft je bij, tot lang na je terugkeer naar huis.
’Dankzij deze reis heb ik nieuwe energie gekregen. Wanneer je door de fjorden loopt, voel je hoe onbeduidend je bent als individu in vergelijking met de natuur. Ik weet dat ik nu naar huis ga en opnieuw zal evalueren wat er belangrijk voor me is,’ besluit Daniel.
